9th KO2 World Cup: The Seeding Groups

Post by alkis21 »

At the moment we have 33 confirmed players.

Seedings are below, as written by me and Robert. As always, principles used are:

-Ranking points
-Performance in previous World Cups
-Performance in other tournaments
-Recent form and practice level
-Where two players must be separated, head-to-head record
-Personal opinions / quality assessment.

As there are four groups in the first round, we draw from 9 seeding 'layers' of 4 people. If a player drops out, everyone below him moves up a place. If someone registers, then we appoint him where we think he belongs and everyone below him moves down a place.

The aim of this process is not to favor or punish any individual, but just to come up with four equal groups (as much as is possible). So please don't complain about your seeding. The way to prove the seeding committee wrong is by winning, not whining.

Hopefully we did a better job than last year, which was a disaster. Oh and I've been thinking, we've never managed to correctly guess the world cup semi finalists in the first seedings group. Not even in Cologne where each seeding group had eight people! I wonder if this is the year where it will happen.

Thanks for the fundamental seeding work.

Armin, one of the groups will have 9 players, that is all.

Well, what this basically means is that if we stay at 33 players, one group will have 9 players instead of 8 and you will be placed in it before the drawing begins.

LOL, you have big faith in Lockout and LOB. Fabio and Jacob are stronger than their seedings, but you didn't ask :-). And I will surely have a hat to eat afterwards, so don't worry. Seedings are good, group 2 and 3 are essentially equally strong, so it doesn't matter, and group 1 is a given, of course. We will bring out the popcorn and beer and enjoy the show.

The only thing I don't quite understand is how Robert could let himself be seeded in group 2. If I may quote from last year's tournament stories...

But this 23rd place after being seeded second was shit, shit, shit and I hereby go on record and state that I will not allow myself under any cicrumstances to be seeded higher than 4th next year – if that, and if I attend.

Well Robert had every intention of seeding himself lower this year, but it's not his fault that the likes of Dagh, John, Panayotis, Ektoras, Steve E not to mention Klaus, Gianluca, Michael, Mario, Jon etc. will not show up.

I think he's fine in the 2nd group. I was just quoting back what he wrote. He said he's going on the record in saying this so I thought I have to bring it up. :)
