No, No No and No !!! :D

I hate it when games come out and the teams have London this or that..... and I guess the same goes for other city's clubs.....

Chelsea play in a london suburb called Chelsea.....

Manchester Utd play in Manchester....

Liverpool in Liverpool

no problem there....

Arsenal is a problem though :( Call them Gunners or something ;)

great idea.

The club name is Arsenal FC so we should be able to use Arsenal. It is after all just an english word, noone can own that.

PSV Eindhoven can be Eindhoven etc.

AEK Athens - Athens
Steaua Bukarest - Bukarest (*edit* or Steua Bukarest cause noone know how it is spelled anyway.. :) )

Okay Charlie, I didn't know Chelsea was actually a place
But just using nicknames without the city name, like Gunners for Arsenal, may lead to duplicates when you get more teams from all over the world.

But using Arsenal is not allowed, even if it is also an English word on its own. If I'm correct it is about using names like Arsenal and Liverpool as football clubs in a game. You need to change the name so it doesn't have a direct reference.

My idea for replacing vowels actually comes from Sensible Soccer 2006. There the vowels are exchanged to a certain pattern, for example an E becames an A and en E becomes an A. Unfortunately they made the strange choice to exchange both I and U with O. This means you can not blindly convert the name back to its original counterpart. You either have to know the name or guess what it should be. This is doable with most European names, but can turn into hell with some of the African names: "Was it Okomubutu or Ukomobutu?" ;)

So what I'm trying to say is that exchanging vowels is a simple and proven legal way of using real names in a footy game. You just have to exchange them in a smart way and you can easily change the names back with an automated process!

What does team building consists off? Just naming players, their positions and their numbers? Any more attributes?

Btw 1: I like Pascal's idea of having a uniform way of mangling player names.

Btw 2: I know that Alkis, as well as Nikos and Vasilis have done a good work in the past here in the KOA, but AEK is not the important team of Athens. That team is Panathinaikos. So the "change a team's name to its corresponding city" won't work that well in some cases.

2 Anderlecht
5 Bayern München
