Kaliera P2P Client - NOT HE USUAL METHOD!!!

Has anyone looked into this for Kick off?

Instead of using servers it sets you up PC - PC Direct.
So better pings and big lag reductions.

Could be somethiung good for us to look into while the sensible guys get a 360 version

I tried it with Mr. Camber one evening, it was ok but not too much better and still frustrating.

I tried it with an open mind and I really did want it to be so much better. Steve was still getting pings of 40ms+ though. It was really easy to set up, so shouldn't be too difficult for anyone else to try.

This is whats being used Pete - so no need to spend £200 on a next gen console!

Its fantastic to use whilst playing Sensible Soccer but with Kick Off there is noticable lag - however it does the job and a few months ago myself and Danne organised two seperate tournies which both went fantastic (albiet with lag problems)

But if (for instance) me and you played I dont think lag would be much of a problem because we live fairly close to each other.

no i dont think you understand, this is not the usual kaliera client, i have used this and played in the tournaments, ITs another method to do it.

Normally you all agree on a server to log into and create a room etc etc, well with this new way there is no server, you just connect PC to PC.

I think you can do this with Kailerra...all you have to do is give the other user your IP (or vice versa).

Yep, I set myself up as a server and Steve C connected to me. My ping was 0 but his was still in the 40's

I know you can run a server yourself and give people the servier ip, so then you have a ping of 0 and they connect to your server i have done this a few times!! I understood there was now something NEW and different to this, the use of a server is not used anymore, local or hosted.

i will look into when i get time.

Looks to me like just a nice way of finding an opponent without having to browse through servers, then initiating a direct connection just like we have already experimented with.

I've just been looking at the kaillera forums and there seems to be an update coming soon. The guy that originally developed it passed it on to someone new a while back and they've been busy with it ever since. No word on a release date yet but apparently the big things are behind them. Maybe soon online Kick Off will be acceptable.

I can only hope.
