Cherries promoted to the Premier League!

Postby Tripod » Tue Apr 28, 2015 11:49 am

I cannot believe it - the AFC Bournemouth will play in the Premier League for the first time in its long history. There's still a match of the Championship to be playey and they are only three points ahead of Middlesborough, but with a goal difference better by 19 goals it's basically a done deal.

The AFC Bournemouth is the first club I followed back in my teenage years, I've been to Dean Court, I've still got a scarf tucked away somewhere, I better go and find it again. Back in my days the were promoted into the 2nd division (now called the Championship) and even had a few good years there under the management of Harry Redknapp. But then they dropped back down into the 3rd division and then even down into the fourth (called League Two these days). And in 2009 due to financial troubles they were deducted 17 points and were certain to drop out of professional football - until Eddie Howe took over and with a 2-1 win in the penultimate game of the season they stayed in the league - and were promoted back into the 3rd division only a year later. Howe then left the club, the Cherries stayed in the 3rd division (League One), and after Howe returned in October 2012 - when the club was near the bottom of the league - he didn't just save the club from relegation, they were promoted into the Championship at the end of the season. And now, just two years later, the Athletic Football Club Bournemouth has achieved what I dreamed of in the later 1980s, promotion into the effing Premier League. Well done, lads, well done Eddie Howe! A former AFC player, he spent nearly his whole professional career with the Cherries - one of these stories that can only happen in sports, incredible!

So they have to loose by 19 goals in order to screw it up, ani't gonna happen. Congratulations !

I remember supporting Luton Town in my youth and remember they got to or won the FA CUP ?
