koanet league table suggestion

Postby durban » Thu Oct 30, 2003 1:47 pm

Ok.

I was thinking what I could do for koanet in terms of the league situation.

I was thinking about restarting the league?

No this wouldn't be a good idea, there isn't much point as the bottom placed player can easily win say 5-8 games on the trot and head back up the table really quick. Thats the beauty of the system, its fair and means no matter how low you get you can get yourself back in it in a couple of games.

I was however thinking we could adopt a system where each player loses (or gains) ranking points every day. So someone who hasnt played for 10 days would lose a certain amount of ranking points.

Say 2 a day.

Might be better doing it on a percentage perhaps, then the higher ranked you are the more incentive to play.

Also people under 1000 pts would start to go back up the table....They would get these points regardless I guesss, so even if they did play they would get 10 points a week or somthing.

Just an idea.

Another idea is setting up a real league system to run alongside the ranking system.

We could have 2 or maybe 3 leagues, with promotion and relegation. Play each team 4times etc.

There would be a time limit so say 1 month to play all the players in your league. Then the top2 get promoted, bottom 2 relegated etc.

Problem would of course be players who stopped playing.

I dunno, lets have ideas

I dislike the first idea about adding and substracting points when somebody doesn't play for some time. I want the standings to reflect the relative strength of the players over time, not the activity.

The second idea is great, but as you say we'll need enough active players. And we need to come up with a plan for the situation when a player decides to quit. This weekend I'll work out a plan on my drawing board :)
I'll let you know what I've come up with ASAP!

Here is my plan for the league system.

As you both say it would be better with more active players.

Durbans KOANET League System

Currently we have 17 active players most of whom are playing (or are available to play) every couple of days.

If we split this into two leagues of say 6 teams in each league.

The league would run for 1 month.
Each player has to play his opponent 4 times, no more and no less!

If a player does not play all his matches then both players will be contacted and given an ultimatum. Whoever makes the biggest effort to complete the match will be given a 1-0 win.

At the end of the 1month the top 2 teams from Div 2 will be promoted and the bottom 2 of the top league will be demoted.

If any new players at this time wish to register then they will either a) Take the place of the players who have dropped out, or b) start in Div 2 and fight like the rest for promotion.

I will also be looking into a cup competition as well.

Give me time tho as I have a few other projects that are taking priority as at the moment the koa is flourishing quite well with what we already have.

Major update tonight tho! I will be adding a position indicator to the league table :)

That will be hard :)
