Day 1 format

Postby dnielsen » Sat Oct 18, 2014 7:56 pm

Hi KO2 brahs,

In all seriousness, I think we should consider the day 1 format. Obvious options:

A) Two groups of about 13 players, about 12 games for each person.

B) One group of about 26 players, 25 games for each person.

I like option B because I want to play a lot of KO2 and I want to play as many people as possible. We only have one WC a year, and it could be years before one gets the chance to play a person again.

Is it possible?

With 4 games an hour, it would be around 6 hours of play.
With around 10 working amiga stations, this should be possible!?
At the moment, we have 11 amigas and 9 screens.
We can start fairly early (like 11am) since we are all gathered already in Copenhagen. We also played a 25-man league in Luton some years ago (where people had to travel on the same day).

What do you all think?

dagh,

I like the idea of playing 1 big league for the same reasons.

However its a LOT of games for one day, but on the flip side Jorn has done a sensible thing and NOT booked a Saturday night meal, so in effect we can play as long as we are allowed, then go back to the hotel once all done.

If we start early enough on Sat and all stick to 4 games per hour, then I guess you are looking at -

12:00 Start
13:30 Min 5 Games complete - Lunch Break
15:30 Min 9 Games complete
17:00 Min 14 Games complete.
18:00 Min 18 Game complete
19:00 Min 22 Games complete.
20:00 Completed?

Its do-able I guess?

We could aim to start at 10 or 11, but we know this never happens!

On the other flip side, 2 leagues of 13 players x 1 isn't enough games whatsoever, and x2 would make it the same issues as x1 big league.

Perhaps 3 leagues of 8 or 9 x 2 is an option?

but if it was a clear vote, and knowing that I am generally one of the quickest through my games, I would happily do a big league.

Big league always gets my vote. I'm there to play as many games with as many people.
Bring it on!

People have voiced serious complaints about fatigue in the recent past when we played 16 matches in one day. I think two groups is the only way to go.

Surely, if memory serves me right, I'm totally with Alkis.

Dagh´s B-suggestion sounds tempting, if this can be done during one day. If not, i like Durbans suggestion of 3 leagues of 8 or 9 x 2 games. That idea would give 14-16 games during day 1, which I guess would suit me just fine.

Dagh. Thank you for your input. It's appreciated. However, your option B is not gonna happen. Basicly of two reasons.
The first being that it's a massive energy-drainer.
The second is that we HAVE to take into consideration the small number of stations we've got.

And may I add to it, that history shows, that having 26 koa'ers constantly focusing on just their own games for hours and hours, doesn't happen. Remember that this is also (mostly?) a social event, where we wanna take time to say hello to and catch up with good friends.

And, just to remind you; I asked you 13 months ago if you wanted to help me organize this WC, and you was very clear on your "No", and wich I respect deeply. In return I'd like for you to respect the organisation-committee doing their work, as they've done for the last 14 years, to the common best for the Koa and all participants.

And finally, let it be known that we're considering quite a few options on how to play out this WC, there are a few different formats being discussed, but your option B is not one of them. It has been considered a while back, but it's abandoned.

Jorn,

Perfect argument against one big group. Never even crossed my mind, obviously you gone out of your way to secure as many Stations as you can (which we all apprecaite as its a big effort on your part) and even then we cannot deal with the number of games we would have to have in progress at one point.

the other issue around fatigue is also completely valid. All it takes is one or two people losing the will to live (let alone 15 of us) and the whole league becomes a waste of time.

I am now against one big league, its a great dream but not a reality.
