Hey everybody!

I was looking for something to watch the other day on Netflix and came across Atari: Game Over. Got me thinking about all the games I played as a kid and I remembered that Kick Off 2 was THE game that I played all the time. Wondered if there were any tournaments and a quick google search brought me here!

Swept away in a wave of nostalgia I signed up to the World Cup in Dublin, ordered myself an Amiga 500 (I appreciate that was potentially unnecessary given that there's some emulators out there), zipstick joystick and a copy of Kick Off 2. Very. Excited.

I've not played for at least 20 years and am keen to get some practice in with some real live people - wondering if there's anyone in London who fancies a game or if anyone can give me any advice on playing online. If I can help it I'd rather not rock up in Dublin and get annihilated in the first round!

There should be people in and around London who could give you some game-time. There's also a few living in the Reading-area. Maybe some of the other brits could help you rustle up some local opposition.

Hello everyone. Just signed up for the forum in the hope I can make some KO2 acquaintances. One of my old schoolmates recently asked me if it was possible to play Kick Off online and after a quick Google I stumbled upon you guys via a web site article explaining that, yes it is possible!

So I'm Mark, 38 from Uxbridge in Middx originally now living in Surrey. My dad bought me the Amiga 500 Batman pack for my 13th birthday. This coincided nicely with Italia 90 and the release of the awesome Kick Off 2 (Italia 90 edition) which my paper round money helped me buy.

Hours upon hours of playing it in World Cup mode (or league mode during school holidays) I had a band of mates who play together. Is Amiga snobbery permitted on this site before I launch into how much superior it was over my mates' ST version?

I was and am still not a massive gamer. With the Amiga I love Lotus, Speedball 2, Super Off Road Racer, Shadow of the Beast, New Zealand story etc. Going into school each week and handing over a new box of blank disks to the 'nerds' and receiving back a whole catalogue of Amiga games was quite normal (although I bought plenty of originals too!) No matter how much I enjoyed these other games it was always a brief flirtation. Kick Off 2 was my true love.

When Final Whistle and all the other data disks were released I bought them all. I was annoyed I couldn't see the refs with Final Whistle so bought my memory upgrade. I'm not sure yet what the general consensus is with Final Whistle etc but I found the playability faster, more intense/frantic and not as enjoyable (read 'more difficult’)

Haven’t played KO2 in a while but would love to start again. I’m getting some of my old KO mates to install the emulator and try playing locally and online and we’d definitely love to get to some fairly local tourneys. I will keep a close eye on the forums.

Was always a Cruiser/Zipstick person but liked the Comp Pro too.

Many players swear to the comp pro, while others enjoy quicker sticks to perform better technically. In short, it's all to his own...

as for joysticks, I'd stay clear of the speedlink ones if I were you, very tacky feeling and break pretty quickly... ebay usually has a decent range of oldschool sticks which are generally much more sturdy, hence them still being around 25 years later... then it's just a matter of an adaptor which you can pick up from amazon

Thanks Lee. I was wondering whether a 9-pin to USB converter would be just as good as/better than buying a straight USB stick. Time to get up to the loft and get the ol' Comp Pro out.
