light wind as a default setting for WCS

Postby Danny D » Fri Dec 11, 2015 2:30 pm

Here is a proposal : add light wind as a default setting for World Cups.

Wind has many benefits:
- it drys clothes
- It's a clean fuel source.

but the biggest benefit of all :
- it will introduce randomness to the World Cup.
- No longer will one trick ponies be able to repeat their trick 10 times a game.
- it makes for a fairer playing field.

I guess that would have an impact on the "join the dot" passing that many have perfected as well as those fans of the long distance aerial precision shot.
BLCs would be screwed too I guess.
So, the result would be fewer goals and more defensive blunders?

Fewer goals ? Perhaps but I anticipate different goals due to the wind, might compensate.
Light wind would mess with blcs definitely but is that a bad thing?
More defensive blunders due to the wind would lead to more goals.

We should try it, trial it, see what it's like. Maybe this is the best thing since the sliced pan?

i like a bit of randomness, i personally prefer to improvise and play on the fly rather than 'join the dot', however, i think wind maybe gives a bit too much randomness... fun for a few games, absolutely... basing a competition around it, would the novelty wear off quickly for a lot?

Perhaps the novelty would wear off but consider these 2 scenarios.

a) Imagine if every day was the same, the exact same.
b)Now imagine if every day would always be slightly different.

We live in a dynamic world but the Kick Off 2 world we choose is static.

Or to quote the movie the Matrix:

"You take the blue pill, the story ends. You wake up in your bed and believe whatever you want to believe.
You take the red pill, you stay in wonderland, and I show you how deep the rabbit hole goes."

We have never tried the red pill :)

I think historically italians have been fans of wind. Is that still the case?

The point of wind, like the referee selection, was to add variation so that people would be less likely to always score the same way, and add the excitement of need to adapt to the conditions. In the long run, the more skillful players will still win. However the truly skillful would adapt their play to cope.

They do this in Formula 1 all the time. Teams find loop holes and go faster and faster. So the governing body introduces changes for those teams that are exploiting... never ending..

I`m a fan of default wind.

As long as it's introduced in a way so we all get to play how we want then I don't see an issue

i'm swinging around to the idea tbh, a WC might not be the best time and place to test it out, but it would vary the play a lot and make peoples improvisation skills a lot more evident than maybe just muscle memory

I used to play with light wind before I met the KOA, and I liked it.

What I am not sure if you know or remember about the wind is that may allow scoring directly with a corner kick. As sure as a penalty kick with the proper wind from the proper corner. I enjoyed that aspect too, but knowing the people here, I guess maybe some will hate it.

With wind and plastic pitch, I can score with the goalkeeper. That's the only thing he is good for, though.
