Offer to host 2016 UK Champs

Postby Steve1977 » Thu Nov 26, 2015 1:02 pm

Right then guys, because organising one world cup in a year isn’t enough, we’d also like to throw our hat in the ring to host the 2016 UK Championships!

We went through a period where we organised 4 of them in a row and everyone who went had a great time. So with our energies renewed, we’d like to host it again with the same vigour and passion we had last time.
We have two possible venues available to us that will be dependant upon player numbers – naturally, one of them you’re already aware of and it’s the official KOA Hotel in Oldbury, the other will be a local Tennis Club with the same facilities.

Would we have the KOA Support in doing this? If so please post which dates you’d be available for as per below. Just to also add, if we did host it will be a one day event but if people have far to travel then we’ll have tournaments the day before – maximum number of tournaments – The KOBRA way!
Naturally, if people have any concerns then voice them also, but the drill will be simple…identical events to the 4 we previous hosted with lots of efforts in advertising, cajoling and begging to get new players!

Which dates can you make?
8th May 2016
22nd May 2016
29th May 2016

Question: Robert Swift had indicated he was intending to host the UKC. Is he involved in this bid or is this a separate venture?

All 3 are good for me at the moment.
The two day format gives nice flexibility for those who want to make more of a weekend of it.
I think Robert proposed Nottingham to give Andy a break from hosting in Bournemouth. But, as with the WC, having multiple offers on the table is always a good place to be :)
However, I'm voting for the Bham double.

btw, if Andy hosts any tournaments, do we take our own lag or does he supply enough for everyone?

Well this seems like a goer as well then eh lads??? :)

Aiming BIG with this, our goal is to make it as big as a World CUp but with players from UK and Ireland - imagine that eh.
We used to say this back in the day and only ever got 1 extra but you never know hehe

I think it is a goer. Rob mentioned hosting it in Nottingham but he hasn't spoken about it since.

What dates are you thinking? Need to book some flights while I have money :)

Yeah, I messaged Rob a few weeks back on Facebook but had no reply also.
Could we possibly close this thread now? I’ll start up a new one in the next coming days/weeks with official info. Ideally I’d like to launch both the UK Champs and World Cup (if chosen of course) in tandem.
