I do not blame anyone. But I do expect we can talk quietly about everything without anyone shouting "blasphemy!!!"

As the current Silver Cup Champion (jeeesus never thought I would say that) I believe I should have a big say on the format...

Sadly I don't have many thoughts on the subject but just wanted to relive my glory :)

Knowing this we can make some counts to see if the big league is doable or we have to split in 2 to reduce aggregate matches.
Coming by car I think I have some room to bring something with me, but, coming with the kid and wife, I guess that I will not have much room. I can bring at least one complete amiga station with 1084S monitor though, if necessary.

Well, I can prepare about 10 stations or more with monitors (I think, if we play on 6 to 8 stations at the same time, we are good in the time schedule) The amigas are tested and should run. Monitors are 1084 or similar Philips. I think, that we need video cables. We have very few of them, so, it would be great, if you could bring some video cables to Voitsberg (that would be necessary). We got this year from a member of lotek64 many amigas and monitors. the rest will be from last World Cup.

OK there's one last issue to solve, I guess...

Silver Cup Semi Finals or Quarter finals?

Let's put the 20 registered names that we have so far in the hypothetical groups, perhaps it will give us a clearer picture. Say that after Round 2, the standings are as follows (don't worry about who is or isn't 100% confirmed):

Group E
1. Gianni T, 2. Steve C, 3. Rodolfo M, 4. Jorn F, 5. Pep T

Group F
1. Andy G, 2. Michael Ma, 3. Joerg P, 4. Helmut H, 5. Christopher A

Group G
1. Alkis P, 2. Robert S, 3. Klaus Le, 4. Michele L, 5. Dino D

Group H
1. Oliver St, 2. Lorenzo L, 3. Mark W, 4. Flavio Z, 5. Michael F

How do we want to proceed?

OPTION 1
WC Quarter Finals: Gianni T - Robert S, Steve C - Alkis P, Andy G - Lorenzo L, Michael Ma - Oliver St
SC Quarter Finals: Rodolfo M - Michele L, Jorn F - Klaus Le, Joerg P - Flavio Z, Helmut H - Mark W
Places 17-20: Pep T - Dino D, Christopher A, Michael F

or

OPTION 2
WC Quarter Finals: Gianni T - Robert S, Steve C - Alkis P, Andy G - Lorenzo L, Michael Ma - Oliver St
SC Semi Finals: Rodolfo M - Klaus Le, Joerg P - Mark W
Places 13-16: Jorn F - Michele L, Helmut H - Flavio Z
Places 17-20: Pep T - Dino D, Christopher A - Michael F

I think, with this low number of attendance, we should go QFs for the SC as well. We'll sure have time for it.

Based on that format (if its the one we go for) I agree totally with Jorn.

Also can we make it CLEAR that the SC Final will be one leg, myself and Lorenzo knew this last year, about 90% of people watching thought it was two legs!

I have no preference for whether it remains 1 leg, although I do feel a 1 leg final is more competitive.

I vote against SC quarter finals. It is just one vote, my vote. And with the valuable competition example that Alkis has given us, I would like to provide a couple of funny facts about having qf:

- If we are less than 20 players, in one or more groups some players will automatically qualify for qf, even after losing 0-15 every match.

- Even if we are 20 players, if the fifth in my group is, as Alkis example says, Pep, a newby who has not played humans in the last two decades and was not born in another planet like Dagh, I could advance to qf with just one victory. Three lousy points. Or even two.

It has that smell of special olympics all over again. Candies for everyone! Why should we take the competition aspect out of a competition? Is not the purpose of competition to separate the good from the less good? Why that fear of being left behind?

Rodolfo, you make some very good points.

Gianni will be happy, this world cup is more like Christmas than ever. Every kid gets what they have been asking for years: Steve gets his huge 1-leg league, Rodolfo gets the Silver Cup semis.. I wonder if it would be a good time for me to unbury that old one-leg final argument? :D

I also always wanted the yellow team to be full orange. But we will leave that for the spanish WC :D

As for the one leg WC final, I would support it if we could play it in one computer with image sent to two monitors, so no one gets that team a or team b feeling.

Oh man, two monitors! I had forgotten about that... I remember people telling me every year, "sure, it can happen, it's very easy". I've never seen it in my life.

well, we could play with team A in yellow and team b in yellow! in this way nobody would have to dress the depressing blue shirt!
But I'm sure that some one could point out who has to stay sit down on left and who is sit down on right. and somebody else in the middle...
