Best Games you Have seen

After last nights Epic match between Chelski and Barca I was wondering what my favourite matches I have ever seen would be in a top 5?

Not limited to being AT the match this time....what are your 5 favourite matches.

In no particular order -

1) Liverpool 3 - 3 (Champions League Final 2005)
2) Barcelona 2 - 2 Chelsea (Champions League Semi Final 2012)
3) Liverpool 9 - 0 Crystal Palace (Division 1 1989 - and I was in there)
4) Liverpool 4 - 0 Brentford (FA Cup 1988 - and I was in there)
5) Liverpool 3 - 3 West Ham (Fa Cup Final 2006 - and I was there)

Number 4 may seem a weird one, but I just remember it being one of my favourite games of football...Brentford were brilliant in the first 30 minutes and I remember Andy Sinton (and Cadette?) being awesome and so unlucky...but then we just battered them in the end.

Also I remember Crystal Palace like it was yesterday, I am sure they missed a penalty in the first 5 mins down at the KOP end and I was stood right behind the goal...they would have been 1-0 up...but in the end it was obviously a one sided match (and yet for the first 30 minutes it was such a tight game at 1-0!!!)
I was also at Villa Park for the FA Cup Semi Final that season and still don't understand how we got beaten 4-3 by the same team!!! ARGHGH!

1- Real Madrid 1 - Juventus 0. Europe Cup final, 1998. The biggest football joy of my life, when Madrid european glory turned from black and white tales into reality.

2- Spain 0 - Italy 0 (after extra time, Spain wins on penalty kicks) Euro 2008. I still can not believe that Spain won QF, and defeating Italy! That was the moment when Spain changed and became a potential world champion.

3- Spain 5 - Denmark 1. WC 1986, 1/8 finals. I will alway remember this glorious night, singing those Butragueño 4 goals, and 1 by Goico, after midnight, whit my grandfather Antonio.

4- Spain 12 - Malta 1. Last qualifying match before Euro 1984. Most of spaniards would agree on this one. We had to score 11 goals to put Holland out of the tournament, and qualify ourselves. To make things even more dramatic, Malta scored. But in the end, final goal by Señor, we scored 12 and qualified.

5- FC Barcelona 1 - Real Madrid 2. Spanish league, last saturday. We had not beaten this bastards since 2008, for f*** sake!!! (with the nice exception of last season Cup final, also a great memory). But this is the moment that we all (madrid fans) have the feeling that we have turn around the direction of present football history. For the local competition, at least.

Wow - really you had to win by 11 and won 12-1?

now THAT is a performance.....and to go on and almost win Euro 84 as well !

Yeah, that 12-1 was a bit... a bit like Denark vs Sweden in 2004.

Probably not the best, but my most memorable games have to be:
Bremen - Olympiakos 1-3: After some billion years, at last an away win in CL.
France - Spain 2-3 in Euro 84 final: I loved Platini and still remember the fluke by Arconada in the first goal
Panathinaikos - Olympiakos 4-0 in the cup final of 1986: Back when Olympiakos was the laughing stock of greek football. Painful memory :)
Olympiakos - Juventus 1-1 in 1998, CL QF: Just 5 minutes between Olympiakos and the Semis... but our keeper, the wind and Antonio Conte had a different opinion.
Greece - France 1-0 in the Euro 2004 QFs: The game that made the final triumph seem almost inevitable!
Olympiakos - AEK 0-1 in 1989 - agonizing and against the flow of the game defeat that costed us the title.
Liverpool - Olympiakos 3-1: Another late goal, another elimination from the CL. Even with a defeat by one goal, we would have been through. We were up 0-1 and then it seemed like Liverpool had 4-5 players more. It was inevitable and it came by a brilliant Gerard shot in the 85th minute.

France 2 - Spain 0. Yes, that bastard Arconada...

About the 12-1 fix, maybe. But then why would they score that one goal against us?

I was there that night mate, I wouldn't put it down as my favourite game but yes WHAT A goal that was....Gerrard in his prime with one of my favourite strikes especially when you take into account were were going out and even tho we were playing well I really thought it was all over.....then boom! Add to that the fact that we then went on to win the CL that season shows you how important that individual strike was!

Thats why we love Gerrard above everyone else here in Liverpool regardless what the world thinks of him...he pulls things like this out of the hat over and over for us, same as the 3-3 FA Cup final against West Ham when he couldn't walk and yet hit a similar strike from outside the box past the keeper in injury time!!!

Admittedly these days, whilst still a star player for us, it seems the rest of the team can't play as well when he is on the pitch....but even so :)

Hey, I remember he had a great tournament till that fluke. And of course it was 2-0. What a great team France had back then, with Platini, Tigana and Girres. Was Santillana still playing for Spain back then?

I don't know, but sometimes at the flow of the game it's really hard to avoid scoring. Of course Spain is 100 times better than Malta and was also motivated, but still, it's a freak result that raises suspicions. Then again, freak results are what make us love football!

Obviously I've watched many fantastic matches on TV, the ones I will never forget will probably be the Champions League finals of 1999 (Man U - Bayern 2-1) and 2005 (Liverpool-Milan 3-3, 3-2 p.k.). The 1986 France-Brazil (2-1) quarter final also stands out in my memory.

Out of the ones I've witnessed in the stadium, I vote for the AEK-Panathinaikos 1994 Cup final (2-2, 3-3 a.e.t., 2-4 p.k.). Although we didn't win the cup it was an amazing game by two excellent teams and I didn't mind us losing it. Of course it helped that we had just won our third championship title in a row.

6/4/1997 Milan-Juventus 1-6. Every 6th of April I eat a pizza in name of that glorious day.

9/7/2006 Italy-France 6-4. One of the most incredible night I lived, all Italy was crazy, I remember I posted on the forum few pictures about that night.

5/5/2002, Udinese-Juventus. 0-2 Last day of Italian Championship, the day in which Inter lost the title. Juventus should win while a draw was enough for Inter to win the title. Inter was even leading the game against Lazio two times , but Lazio came back and even won the game 4-2. Juventus Italian champion! :D I clearly remember that afternoon. What a moment!

Liverpool-Milan 3-3. That night I went to the Cinema to avoid to ear Milan supporter to make noise in the street, I went to see Star Wars episode 3. While I was driving, the radio was turned on and Milan was leading 3-0.
After the movie, someone started to say that Milan lost the game but I couldn't believe it and I was sure they was kidding me, but when I arrived at home and turned on the TV, I uncorked a bottle of champagne.

Given Im a Blues fan I havent seen many Hollywood games over the years but two stick in the memory from circa 1993 and 1994.

1993 I believe and it was an Easter Monday game against Swindon. They were flying high at the time but David Sullivan had took us over months earlier, invested a little in the team and the manager Terry Cooper had us playing with style and panache. Andy Saville and Paul Moulden quickly formed a cracking partnership but on this day it was Dean Peer who was the man of the match for the Blues, however this was eclipsed by one Glenn Hoddle!
We took a 4-1 lead and looked in control, this would be a good win and drive us to safety but this result was no good for Swindons play off hopes, anyone after about 60 minutes (or could have been at half time) and Hoddle moved himself into Midfield (he was player manager) and they ended up winning the fucker 6-4!
I recall exiting the ground unsure if I'v seen the best or worst game ever and recall one old guy crying while clapping the players off. Absolutely mad day.
We stayed up at the end of the season and Swindon ended up winning a 4-3 cracker against Leicester City in the Play Off final.
Us Blues fans were confident of going up the season after, we had a cracking manager (the former England fullback) and after investment we would be unstoppable...oh the folly of youth!
The Season after summed up Blues because Cooper got the sack and come March we hadnt won since Boxing Day!
This is where my next fave game comes in...Barry Fry was now our manager and ended up buying half the Conference league in players (he signed something like 40 odd players) but one player stood out, Mark Ward.
We hadnt won since Boxing Day but signs of life were there and we entertained Middlesborough. They missed a few chances but we seemed to miss a hatful of certain goals, it seemed we were destined never to win a game again this season but it didnt seem fair we would lose, until in injury time Andy Saville popped up and we won the f*cking game!!!
Fans ran on the pitch as if we'd won the league and you know what? It was anohter game which summed us up but more importantly summed our fans up, despite not winning in months and despite struggling relegation, we celebrated with style and enjoyed the act of simply winning. and yep, we ended up getting relegated hehe

Tsk tsk most of you are posting games of "your teams" instead of great games :D ex: Manchester 2 - Bayern 1 (1999) was a crappy game for 90 minutes with 2 goals in the last minute.

Best matches I remember seeing:

Werder Bremen 5 - Anderlecht 3 (CL 1994) - Anderlecht were winning 0-3 at half time with a spectacular game. Werder turned the game around in the 2nd half with a glorious performance by possible the best kiwi player ever, Wynton Rufer

Milan 4 - Barcelona 0 (CL Final 1994) - Nobody would think Barcelona would lose the final, much less be trounced. Capello's organization of what was, for me, the best team squad to ever play the game was precise and clinical. Capello didn't even use Van Basten for this game.

Argentina 3 - Germany 2 (WC Final 1986) - as much as I cried watching this game (I was 10 years old and a Germany supporter already), this game was the perfect demonstration of an (almost) perfect organization vs limitless imagination. Breitner couldn't stop Maradona and imagination won.

USA 0 - Brazil 1 (WC1994) - A very tight match between the solid home team and the best striker duo I've ever witnessed playing the game. Bebeto made the difference in a beautiful play with Romario, as 10-men Brazil fought hard to penetrate a very solid defense.

Germany 1 - England 1 (WC 1990) - The 2 best squads in the world at the time, possibly the best German and best England squad I can remember seeing, in a fantastic game that only the lottery of penalties decided.
Officially the best Portuguese Kick Off player living in Ireland.
