Capturing Amiga output direct to PC

After seeing how great Steve Camber's game video's were at the UK Champs I'v been iching to get this working myself to record local tournaments and also JFF games - games which normally dissappear from the memory but with the help of this we could record some for posterity.

I'v got Amiga Explorer from the Amiga Forever family which allows you to connect a PC to an Amiga using one of these
Then once the Amiga is communicating with the PC Im going to see if it's possible to see what's loaded on the PC via Adobe Premier or programs of that ilk. My initial fear though is that the speed of this wont be great and would affect the Amiga? Basically if the PC crashed i wouldnt want this to effect the Amiga so would an alternative be to go for this? http://www.fleetmicro.com/product.php?id_product=39

Im presuming this would work in the same way as would be if we had the Amiga linked up to the projector?

I really don't understand what you are trying to do, you're either a complete genius or whatever the opposite is!

Please don't part with any cash getting the things you mentioned above.

Thanks Steve. So it's that easy!!! Does the software allow various resolutions and frame rates before outputting to something like .avi ? What typically is the file size of 10mins of KO2 for youtube purposes, Steve.

All (below HD) resolutions are possible, and every pixel of KO2 glory can be captured at 25fps. It's a standard device so and decent capture software works with it. VirtualDub, Windows Movie Maker, you name it. It also captures sound dircetly too, so no separate messing about with your sound card.

My crusty old laptop managed to real-time compress a standard ko2 game at about 30 meg. Post process all you like from then on.

Everyone should have one at least. I have two, for home and work.

I'm looking at it and I'm scratching my head... what goes where? Which one of these cables is connected to the Amiga?

You keep the amiga connected to a TV monitor through RGB and you connect:

-A1200 modulator output to the yellow RCA (Video In)
-A1200 2 * RCA to the white and red RCA (Audio In L+R)

To avoid losing the audio from the Amiga, you need two of those:



You plug the male socket to the Amiga (one cable in the pic to each Amiga audio RCA socket) and from the two female RCAs, you lead one to the video capturing device and the other to the Amiga monitor.

Steve, with this cable the Amiga sound will go only to PC speakers, not the Amiga.

Sure, if you want the sound to come out the TV too, then the audio splitter is a good move.
