Spot the Goal Competition!

Postby gdh82 » Sun Sep 21, 2008 4:26 pm

Anyone see this at the weekend ?

Watford 2-2 Reading

"I've never seen anything like it. It's like a UFO landing, a mistake like that.

Judging from that quote, the Watford manager had clearly never played KO2 before!!!

That's worse than all the non-goal kick off videos you ever put up!! At least the ball is somewhere near the goal when the KO ref gives them.

@ Bbob - think I might agree with you there!

@ Stainy - spot on! Seems insane we still rely on the human eye making judgements from 20-30m when there's video technology available.

Reading goal error to be examined

The linesman has decided it's a goal. I've asked him about it and he said it was an optical illusion

Watford boss Aidy Boothroyd

I gather the ball as it was crossed went over the line and out for a goal kick but from the linesman's position he somehow thought the ball went over the line whilst it was the other side of the goal post and within the 'goalzone'. :eeko:

Poll told BBC Radio Five Live: "This is the most bizarre situation I've ever seen in 40 years watching football and 27 years refereeing. "I heard about it then watched the highlights thinking 'it can't be how it's described', but it is. He (Bannister) has got a clear view of it. It's completely inexplicable.

Isn't this from the guy who dished out three yellow cards to the same player ?

That decision is absolutely nuts!

Here's another YouTube link as the Football League are trying to sweep this under the carpet...and no wonder!

I remember this kind of thing hapening in Germany about 10 years ago, it was in the news for weeks.
It was similar incident, the ball went out of play to the right of the goal and a goal was awarded.

I seem to remember that the game had to be replayed

Heya Fresshie :-)

I reckon we need a challenge system like the NFL.
I would love to see fergie throw a tanty then chuck the rag on to the pitch

Ya get one challenge per game and if the challenge is upheld ya get your duster back for another go.

That's interesting. Over here The Football League says no to a replay Hope the calls for goal-line technology and video evidence grow...
