Reading goal error to be examined

The linesman has decided it's a goal. I've asked him about it and he said it was an optical illusion

I gather the ball as it was crossed went over the line and out for a goal kick but from the linesman's position he somehow thought the ball went over the line whilst it was the other side of the goal post and within the 'goalzone'.

I remember this kind of thing hapening in Germany about 10 years ago, it was in the news for weeks.
It was similar incident, the ball went out of play to the right of the goal and a goal was awarded.

I seem to remember that the game had to be replayed

That's interesting. Over here The Football League says no to a replay Hope the calls for goal-line technology and video evidence grow...
