CPU Player

Postby storyplayer » Tue Feb 26, 2008 4:21 pm

Having immensely enjoyed Goal and Kick Off on my old Amiga for many years, I am delighted to see it being re-born on the PC. I use an Amiga emulator (WinUAE) but configuring it to play Kick Off continues to defeat me.

I have just downloaded version 0.86 of Throw In and am stumped as to how I get the CPU to play as my opponent. There appears to be no option or icon that makes this clear. The instructions make no mention of it either. I did manage to enter practice mode, but after the goalkeeper cleared the ball over the halfway line no amount of joystick wiggling would make any player go anywhere near the stationary ball; all my players just did a little dance near the centre spot while the opposition stood and watched in amazement! Obviously I did something wrong. Can you give me a clue?

Hi storyplayer and welcome to the forum.

to play cpu

friendly:
1. Press 'Friendly' in options menu
2. Press on the team you want to play.
3. Press twice for the AI team you want to play against.

Champions League
1. Press Champions League
2. Press twice on the team you want to play

Hope this helps.

I dont really undrestand what you mean happened in practice to be honest. In practise you only the team you play is presebnt on the field.

but you maybe refer to a bug?

Thanks for that. I decided to run a check on my joystick and it appears that its 'Y' axis (up and down) is not being recognised. Presumably this is why I couldn't get the players to go near the ball. Clearly I need to sort this out.

I know that this game is still beta and less than perfect, but instructions like double clicking to select CPU player will need to be made clearer to newbies like me. Personally I would also prefer it if the pre-game options could be made wholly with the keyboard, or the mouse or the joystick rather than a combination of each. I think that Kick Off's options were all made with the joystick - which weren't necessarily always easy.

I agree and hopefully and we will try to make it more userfriendly for next versions.
