Final Whistle Competition Version - 0.2.1 Released 03-04-08

Postby John Wilson » Tue Jan 29, 2008 9:38 pm

For those interested I've posted a Final Whistle Competition Version here: http://www.jonw.f2s.com/KO2
(There are also a couple of fresh cracked versions done in the spirit of Jesper's 1.4 - i.e. as close to the original as possible).

Initially all I wanted was a version of FW with an option to turn the scissor kicks and flicks off. But after a discussion with Camber and a look at his 'KO2 Disassembly Analysis Tools' (he's done a great job here by the way) that he has built up over the last couple of years I thought I'd have a crack at doing it properly.

Well after a month or so grappling with nasty self-modifying code and staring at binary dumps I finally made it.

Here's whats included in the first release:
Edit: Updated for release (0.0.4)
  • No need for KO2 disk
  • Options to turn off Scissor Kicks and Flicks for teams A and/or B
  • Default KOA settings (strips, aftertouch, international teams etc)
  • Filthy PBD!!!
  • A=B
  • Disable auto slides
  • 4 x replay speed
  • Camber Wind (Oo-er)
  • 68020 cache disable
  • A600 Keys (although I've not tested this)
  • Fixed that stupid 'Stuck in PBD Selection' bug when selecting a computer only game (thanks for the feedback Filipo).
  • Added Camber's fix for aftertouch for 2nd/3rd/4th PIP
  • Torchio Tactics! As suggested by Gianni I've put an option in to stop your team switching to their defensive formation when you kick or head the ball. This was most noticeable when trying to play a long through ball and when I tried it, even on corners.
When testing this I was really surprised at how much easier it is to move the ball forward, especially up the wings with 4-2-4.
It is independently selectable for each team.
  • Fixed a couple of 'traps' missed in the original crack
I've tested this on my A500 and A1200 and Camber's had a go with various WinUAE setups and all seems OK.

Big thanks go to Camber of course for creating tools that I could pick up and pretty much use straight away with the Final Whistle image and also for feedback from his testing.

So if you fancy testing your filthy PDB skills against those even filthier FW keepers then why not download it and have a pop!

If there's enough interest there should be no problem porting other KO2CV features too.

Congratulations on putting this together so quickly John. It's really impressed me how much you have achieved since our meeting, I'm glad you could make sense of my work so far and I'm looking forward to making use of your work for future KO2CV development.

Surely the start of a bright new future for Final Whistle! Let the wishlist begin!!

I still haven't scored a goal yet vs the damn FW keeper, even with filthy PBD assistance!

Wow.

FW was never my cup of tea, but I should definitely give this a try. Really impressed by how silently you reached this result.

I did 'offer' PMCV, but his heart was set upon a FW update and that's what is really needed to attempt this amount of work.

PMCV will have to wait a little longer ;)

Have you never played Final Whistle Garry? Haydn and I used to play it a lot and I missed the overhead kicks when going back to KO2.

Not sure I'd want to go back to FW now, but good work nonetheless John.

...umm, after the playtesting I do miss the extra on screen text Steve has done - formations, KOA text etc., so I'd like to do that at some point and possibly the different pitch graphics too.

I'd also like to look at what Steve's done recently with the 'Unintended Slide'.

Apart from that post any ideas in the Final Whistle Wishlist thread - I'd be happy to add any of the KO2CV features that already exist and would consider any new ones that can be thought of.

...as for other versions - anything as long as it's not Player Manager

Any chance of collaborating with Steve to bring the FW pitches to KO2?

Yeah, its the overhead kicks that I remember most - tbh I can't remember what other differences there are ?

Ref running about.
AI seems different.
Tactics depend on attacking or defending.
Keeper saves everything.
