How does the 'season restart/reload' thing work? I used to play PM all the time but got bores waiting for the new season to start to pick up the odd decent new player.

Ok, I expect it's my job to answer this.

To make elite teams for loading in KO2 and beating your friends:

Make a save in about week 23 (just after you win The Cup).

1) Save as late as you can - as soon as NEW SEASON appears instead of MATCH DAY
2) Make sure you save ON THE AMIGA DISK to avoid disk swapping

When you click on SAVE GAME, the computer will ask you to insert a blank disk. Insert your normal save disk and you will see a list of saved games come up. Then, FOOL the computer by putting in the game disk, typing a filename and hitting OK. This way it will save your game on the game disk.

Then, search as long as you like for players (it takes about 1 minute per cycle).

1) Hit 'new season'
2) Wait while the disk crunches
3) Go to 'Transfer List'
4) Select 500k+
5) Scan for any 18 year old players worth 1000k or above
6) If you find some BUY THEM - offer the full money, do not haggle, because if you miss out, someone else will buy them (very annoying!!)
7) If there are no 1000k players, click on THE CLUB, resign, reload your end-of-season save, and go back to 1)

Further notes:

The game only refreshes the transfer list with completely new players before Week 1. They never appear during the season. If you do not buy them straight away, they always go to another team and you don't get another chance. Make sure you have enough money to buy anyone by always winning The Cup (save before and reload if you get knocked out - in the early years you must play the games yourself). It's also essential to wait until you get promoted to Division One and get enough income.

Generally on AVERAGE, this generates approx 1 million pound player every 30 tries. But it is completely random; you may get 3 in ten minutes or none in several hours.

If you build a team purely of 1000k players (and their values get better each year) then they will be invincible in Player Manager, and much better than the standard teams in KO2. But the real challenge is when they meet other people's PM teams!

P.S. It's a good idea to have a TV on in the background, to watch while the Amiga is loading. It can get boring, even gruelling, but the results are worth it (back me up guys!)

Quick question. Once you have found and bought a 1000k player, what do you do then?

Do you have to then play the whole season before the next chance or is there any way of building them up on one team?

Yep, play the whole season then repeat. Have you got your 1st 1000k player yet? Sad as it may sound, I always get a rush from seeing those four numbers....

By the way, once you have 4-5 1000k players, you don't have to play the games yourself.

I recommend 'FAST' rather than 'RESULT ONLY' as the true class of your players usually wins out, and 'Result Only' seems to injure your players very quickly, meaning that you get an injury crisis and have to backtrack (i.e. cheat even more).

One of these steps wont work on the ST vesion. Can anyone else confirm the 'anti cheat' mechanism whereby it gets harder to maintain your manager rating if you re-load the same save game time and time again.

The season regeneration should work as described, but you must make sure you win the cup and don't have to reload it time and time again or you will find yourself having to win every game 5-0 just to maintain your manager approval rating!!

I lost some really good teams due to this problem where I had to reload due to no fault of my own <IMG SRC="/phpBB/images/smiles/icon_frown.gif"> (crash, parents kick you off whatever..)

And I agree, I get a buzz from getting a couple of 1000K plus players in there walking around all the competition. I use to get nervous while I hit transfers.... 500k+... forwards.....

Oh and there must be ways to play PM on an compaq IPAQ. Ithas the raw power to play a Quakeengine, surely PM ?! Anyone know of a project looking at that?

I can't edit my post above so just to add..

You should be able to buy 2 1K+ players each year if you are lucky. (there are not always 2 available) If not just get the two best ones you can or re-load it. You need to spend your money or you'll loose it.

I seem to remember that as soon as I got around 5 million in the bank I would get crowd trouble and fined a huge amount. Anyone else get this?
