Player Manager and KO2 Reviews from CVG

Postby manicx » Wed Jan 05, 2005 10:31 am

Okay guys, I found some of me old mags and got some scans:

Player Manager review from CVG, Issue 102, p79

Image

Kick Off 2 Amiga review from CVG, Issue 105, p46 (a)

Kick Off 2 Amiga review from CVG, Issue 105, p47 (b)

Image

Kick Off 2 Atari ST review from CVG, Issue 106, p54

Image

Kick Off 2 Expanded review from CVG, Issue 109, p104

The most interesting read is from the Player Manager review, last paragraph:

'...a few refinements such as increased player control...'

Thanks for the scans Nikos!

I especially liked the conclusion on the PM review: You should only buy Player Manager if
you have no friends! :P

The best thing I saw in issue 131 of CVG (Oct 1992) was that KO2 was no1 in the sports game right above Sensible Soccer. Here's what it says:

"Anco's superlative footy sim gets the CVG vote as one of the All Time Greats. It's jam packed with just about everything you could want from a footy game and features fast action gameplaywhich is just about out of this world! OK, so the graphics are titchy and the sound a bit poor, but who gives a twopenny about that with gameplay that good? The real beauty of Kick Off 2 is that you can never become too good, and there's always going to be someone out there who's better than you! The game is just the business, and if it's not in your collection, you might as well go and hide at the bottom of your garden right now!

Paul Rand who used to write for CVG was one of the most obsessed KO2 players at the time. He used to beat his opponents with scores like 6-0 back in 1990-1991 when the majority were struggling to score a single goal. I always wanted to have a few matches with him, but unfortunately, I was not in the UK back then.

Thanks Stainy. I actually have some really old stuff from Greek mags as well and I have (somewhere) the CVG review from KO1 as well (I have all issues from 88-96) but didn't have much time to find it.

I think that the Zzap scans are yours? Do you have more? If you do, then you have webspace!

Stainy, Durban posted a while ago about a public KOA ftp. Here's the details:

ftp.ko2.co.uk

Login : koa@ko2.co.uk
Password : oracle (yeah, right  )

Upload everything there and I'll copy them to the KOA ftp. Let me know when you'll do it.

Ta.

Okay Stainy, I got them. Excellent Stuff. The sooner I find some time to make a new page for the new scans, everything will be up and running. Thanks a million. :)

I do have a bunch more stuff... KO, KO2, PM etc adverts... different ones.. etc..

I did include some oddball stuff.. like the wishlist for the ( should be ) Player Manager and the advert for the very first KO competition.

Let me know if you want those too!!

I need to sort these first. I am trying to identify the Mag name in the following scans:

- Ko2wipa.jpg + Ko2wipb.jpg
- KOrvw1a.jpg + KOrvw1b.jpg
- pmrvw.jpg
- pmtext.jpg

I have no idea where these scans are from. If you enlighten me, I will finish uploading them to KO-Gathering. As for the other scans, let me sort these first and we have a look after. Thanks again.
