online kickoff Project

Postby Danny D » Thu Nov 20, 2014 10:48 am

Why don't people play Kickoff 2 online against each other anymore? Did it ever take off? What were the problems?

Console--> Emulation --> online ...surely it's a natural evolution? I see that the sensible soccer people have an both an online league table and an offline league table, so why not Kick offers?

I may be wrong but my understanding is that the FS-UAE net play functionality allows for remote playing of amiga games via a central server. It appears that the Killera project is dead and this has replaced it. A bonus is that FS-UAE is cross platform unlike Killera. The infrastructure for an initial trail is ready !

What about this ?

Phase 1
Use mine or an existing server( mine is a dedicated server in France, 100 Mbps). Initial trial period to test fs-uae net play. Latency will be an issue due to single server location, 100-200ms is my guess. If successful proceed to Phase 2

Phase 2
Focus on high density KOA regions(I believe Italy and Germany are the most active?), 2/3 servers located close to players, hence minimising any latency, 60ms my guess (30ms to server and 30ms back). If latency not an issue proceed to phase 3.

Final
Expand to all koa member zones.

Servers required are not actually that expensive nowadays! I'm guess a vps is all that is needed as opposed to physical servers, ball park figure $5-10 pm per server.

Durban, please add a forum mod which shows you has read and not responded to a post. 22 lurkers and not one response!

I probably accounted for half of the hits :)

Does anybody else feel the need for some online KO2 fun?

Hi! I would like to play on line too! I had recently started my tournaments, and some of the italian know me, because I played my first official tournament there last september, and I'd loved to play with someone online. Actually I don,t know anyone on my hometown who plays Kick off so it's a little boring playing every time with the machine...

Sorry Jaume. I know. I tried to pass the ball over to Steve, who's the best guy to ask about online KO2. ;)

Hi. Do you use the online client to play kick off? Do you have a link to download it?
