Hi @all

Klaus and I played today KO2, normal pitch, 100%, no wind. Holland vs. Spain.

After the first half: 4:4
In the end: 5:5

Is this a good result, eh? <IMG SRC="/phpBB/images/smiles/icon_smile.gif"> <IMG SRC="/phpBB/images/smiles/icon_smile.gif">

Did we set up a new record ??

No, your defence obviously needs some practice !

I quite often win around 8-2 in a 2x3 minute game. If only I can do that during the tournament I might make it past the first round !

A good 5-5 game is great fun though, much better that a 1-0 game.

Hmm...not sure I agree with u there Steve. A gruelling match resulting in a 1-0 scoreline can often produce tense & exciting struggles.

Normal result for a 5x2 match is 10-0 against the ai. Scoring in KO has less to do with the ability to defend than the good offense. I think there are no such things as good defenders in KO.

Our defense is quiete well, because we prevent approx. 2 goals per match (where the goalkeeper hasn't a chance).

Yes, a lot of goals are always very funny an makes the whole game more exciting.

I was talking about playing against HUMAN opponents. Playing against the AI is far too easy these days. In 2 player games the variety is there.

Of course playing against a human opponent is far more difficult than the computer, no doubt. Actually, I think that whoever has played more games against human players stands more chances to win the tournament than anyone else. I've played against 6-8 different human players and at least one of them is better than me. The profit for me is that they all use a personal style of playing KO, so this gave me the opportunity to adopt the best parts of them. Whistl the computer opponent doesn't have a special variety of style either in simple game or tournament, exept from different speed.

Some days ago I played 5-3-2 for the first time against cpu. I won 3-0. Later that days I won 5-2 against Niels.
I never before played 5-3-2, but I think I will use this system for the tournamnet. 4-2-4 is my favorite, but when I play the elite of the world I will have have play with a more solid defence.
I talked about it with the loyal crowd that lives inside the Atari ST, they don't like it, but they understand my disiscion <IMG SRC="/phpBB/images/smiles/icon_smile.gif">

There are certain ways to play good defense and I think 5-3-2 is the most passive of them all. I think a fair defence depends on timing; the ability to control the player closer to the ball and foresee the difficulties in a defensive position.

But in 4-2-4, if number 5 misses the it's all over. Certanly if you play against strong players who will finish the chance off for sure.

That's accurate. If your no5 misses the ball, the next thing you usualy see is the ball in your net. That's why you should use this player very carefully. If you choose 5-3-2 , you get a chance for a more reliable defense (with vulnerable wings though) and you keep fair chances for scoring. This tactic against a strong opponent is a right choise, but you should try a more offensive one against an average player.

I have found the best way to shepherd any lively centre forward is to play 5-3-2. The sweeper system provides stability at the back and it gives you get excellent opportunities to get the ball wide for some raiding attacks down the flanks. Me and most of mates play 5-3-2 and have been for the past 3 years. I would advise use it in the tourny. (at least at the begining of the game)

I guess you're right. We don't know what we're about to face in the tourney, right?
Last thing I want is to play my first game against a "KO genious" and embarass myself! So 5-3-2 will be!
