Anyone feel like giving a rookie an introduction to the world of K.O.A.I've been playin for years and always thought I'd whip anyone, given an even playing field. Then I find out that there is a thriving community of serious players.... Now i'm not so sure. What's all this Oracle crack business all about, if it aint broke don't fix it. What does it do. I could do with finding out about Amiga emulation for PC so i do't have to keep getting me mig out. Let me know about tournaments (I still fancy myself). And after reading some of the posts in the forums, please...No vitriol.

Hi, and first of all, welcome!

I am not the best person to make a description of the KOA, but I won't be far away from the truth: we are a group of KO2 & Player Manager fans, who were fortunate enough to have "attracted" the two creators of the best soccer game ever: Steve Screech about a year ago, and Dino Dini more recently.

Steve, with suggestions from the members, decided to create a "remake" of KO2 for the PC, called KO2002. If you haven't yet, go out and buy it!

About the tournaments, yes, tournaments occur on a regular basis. Last year, the World Championship was played on Dartford and was won by Alkis "The Surgeon" Polyrakis, from Greece.

There have been some arguments about the difference between the two most common Kick Off 2 versions: The v1.4e, which was the final one that Anco released, and the Oracle crack, which was released by the Oracle cracking group, which shows some differences in the gameplay, namely different ball control in the box (ball stays closer to player's feet). But let's not go into there now.

About playing the game itself, most of us have Amigas (the ST version of KO2 isn't as good) but a few do play on an emulator.

Any more questions just ask. In thea meantime, enjoy the forums and the community!

Welcome Mark, I wish every new member would follow your example and ask for a few tips upon entering the forum! I'm sure your compatriots would love to have you in the next English tournament, and keep in mind that the 2nd Kick Off 2 World Cup will take place in Athens, on November 3-4.
Remember, remember, the 4th and the 3rd of November

I'm not a "serial" killer, but well erm....does 4 or 5 really count as serial....even when it's ages ago and I haven't even thought about for years. You know, these "crazy" serial killers are all obsessed an' that and like dead into it all whereas I'm not. No haven't thought about it for ages. Aaaanyway, a game or two sounds killer. Are you any good, I reckon that I could murder anyone. I like to attack and I've learned to tear up my opponent when he's least expecting it, scything through his defences until he's lying on the floor coughing up blood and begging for mercy. After sampling the taste of his sweet tears I can the rest assured that nobody but nobody beats me. So how does this getting together for a game thing work then. Where did you say you were Stabford.

He's from Stafford (you know about Junction 15 on the M6 mate)

As I said elsewhere I am in Holmes Chapel (20 mins from you!)

Anyway back to your questions.

Bascially there are 2 versions of kickoff (ok so theres lots more but in reality 2 main differences)

there is 1.4e which is the uncracked reaease for the Amiga.

and the Oracle (which has several minor/major differences)

Hard to explain but in the main in the Oracle version when you are in the box the ball stays closer to you.

Anyway as for Amiga Vs Emulator, I have only ever played on an Emulated version (apart from years ago on my ST that is) and I don't feel that using an emulator hindered me in the last tournament.

Basically you need to get yourself Winuae which is an Emu of an Amiga, I have set mine up with trial and error and I suggest you try the same, if you get stuck we are all here to help you out mate.

Anyway, you then need a disk file image, I have one (its the Oracle version, but that should be fine) so I can send you that.

Giz a shout, I think the winuae homepage (its free to download) is something like http://www.winuae.com but if not just search google or something.

The only problem with the Emu version is if you don't have a decent joystick for the pc, but there may be some greek sticks floating around so ask on the forum (in the ko2002 is probably the best place!)

Hope that helps, let me know when you have Winuae running, some of us on here know a few good sites to get working games etc for the Emulator

Cheers,

Mark
