I hated Final whistle. It's just not as good as KO 2.

The upside was the real players names in the squad (even though it was really old players like Beckenbauer, Cruyff etc. I think I spotted Pele once
And the offside was cool too.

The downsides were the goalkeeper was glued to the line in his box.
And the over head kicking was just boooring and to easy to do, it all ended in kick-and-rush.

I have two words...'cash' & 'in'
Final Whistle and Return to Europe completely ruined KO2.

Having said that RtE did have the option to play as a goalkeeper - it's no more than run around and press fire when you want to dive, but its a skill!

It gives me great heart as a player untested against quality human opposition for a while, to see the problems some players have had scoring goals on Final whistle. It's the version that I play all the time and I don't have any problems scoring, 10-0 is a fairly boring game. I can see my name on the world cup already. Seriously though, Final Whistle has many irreplaceable features for me. All time great teams and players (like Di Stefano) and the playing surface of choice (the hallowed turf of Wembley). What is V 1.4 I've never seen it. What does it do, Where can I get it. Oracle crack? seems to me users need to work on their close control. While we're on the subject, what's the most used version at tourneys. I would be most interested in a Final Whistle tourney if anyone else is. Also, how is the game played at tourneys. I prefer the beautiful game myself but I can imagine that a more pragmatic some might say Liverpool style of play is required. Still, either way someone's in for a pasting.

1.4e is the original KO2 version, as it was made by Anco. The Oracle version is the cracked one, which appears to have some differences. We only play KO2 in tournaments, not Final Whistle.
By the way, I never said I had trouble scoring in FW! I only said I don't like the methods I use in order to score, unlike KO2 in which I enjoy every goal.
Remember, remember, the 4th and the 3rd of November

As far as Ko2, I believe Alkis still has the record with 25-0 victory in a 5 minute halves game!

We've heard that line quite a few times in the last months, believe me

The final version of Kick Off 2. Send a message to Jim Beard (username: JamesHBeard) I believe he had a bulk of originals for sale.

Oracle crack? seems to me users need to work on their close control.

The version cracked by Oracle allows a different ball control in the box. This was only found recently.

While we're on the subject, what's the most used version at tourneys.

That's still under debate Either Oracle, V1.4e or both.

I would be most interested in a Final Whistle tourney if anyone else is.

There has been talk about such a tourney, I believe. Check the Tournaments forum.

Also, how is the game played at tourneys. I prefer the beautiful game myself but I can imagine that a more pragmatic some might say Liverpool style of play is required.

I'm not sure I understand you. Liverpool style?

Still, either way someone's in for a pasting.

Dave mate, Glad to see at long last someone Local.

Macc Lad

I'm down in Holmes Chapel mate.

As for the tournaments, well the quality is quite high, but saying that I thought I would be pretty poor in my first tourney but did ok.

I think the main thing is to have a good way of scoring and know how to score in certain positions.

Some players score quite a lot of similar goals, but there are quite a few players who do play the 'great' game.

Ie passing and trying out things, scoring from all angles and basically playing their way around the pitch.

I personally like to think I play the nice game, however I do realise that you still need certain goals up your sleeve to do well when you are under the cosh, I still aint mastered that.

However people like Nazim, Rikki etc seem to play with a lot of flair and tend to score a lot of different well worked goals in a match.

So to be fair both that tactic and the 'liverpool' style (over the top I presume you mean) are fairly evenly used.

As for which version is most common, take my word for it...don't go there

I thought final whistle was a good addition and used to play it all the time, offside etc added to my enjoyment.

Ok so, Alkis I can teach you a few beautiful ways to score on FW but I'm not sure you'll like em. Binary, Whoh 25 goals in ten minutes is some going but then isn't it easier on KO2 to score set play goals. I prefer a leisurely 40 minuter playing the beautiful game. 36-0 is the record, Germany V Spain. As far as my claim to the next title I'm only foolin. Presumably you need not only to be proficient but lucky. Just like real footy (make your own luck an all that yes...yes). And your Liverpool style comment, what are yer triyin ter say laaa. Cheers 4 the info. Durbs, nice one. There's only one way to play the game. And your Liverpool style comment, what are yer triyin ter say laaa. Perhaps a get together is in order with some other 'locals'. Steve, offside pissed me off. I use the "long ball " tactic off the winning tactics disk though (although this is a poor description of what is basically an attacking 4-4-2). Maybe that's why. Later Y'all, The Toastor.

Final Whistle verdict:

Keepers: Not as good, saved everything but never came off their line
Overhead Kicks: Only made heading and changing direction more difficult
Offside: Poor idea when you can't control the movement of the off-ball players, might have been better in combination with PM tactics
Corners/Dead Balls: Option to put swing on them was good
International teams: Very good idea, even quite educational. Makes you learn about great players. Cruyff for Holland was good.
*Being able to read the player stats when picking your team*: YES. If only KO2 had this.

Overall not as good.

Return to Europe I didn't try much. I noticed the keepers saved lobs, but let in really close range shots that the old KO2 keepers would save. More realistic, would have been better perhaps if KO2 had played like this to start off with. RtE came out too late to get anyone to change their KO2 style I think.

Did anyone get 'Winning Tactics' or whatever it was called? This was a development of the PM tactics engine. I would be interested to have a tinker with this.

In return to Europe the computer AI is useless - they seem to behave irratically and kick the ball in random directions which has lead to Nazim and I coining the phrase : 'frustrate and annoy' whenever we play our goalkeeper competition.
