The A500 mini
Hi guys.
I see in one of my local stores they are running a campaign on the A500 mini. Would you say that this is a good machine to buy, for having the possibility to play old Amiga games on the house TV-set?
I see that you can play other games than the ones included by using a USB-stick. Would you think that means we can play Steve Cambers CV-versions?

Why is this in the Kick Off 2 section?
I do not recommend this product. The only people who may benefit from it are those who have no idea how to set up an emulator, or no friends who can help them do it. If you don't want to buy an expensive A1200 with extra RAM and an SD card, then just hook up an old laptop you have lying around to your TV, set up WinUAE and enjoy thousands of games.

Because I would only buy it to play Kick Off on. But yes, I reckon it's a stretch...

Well... I might be one of those people.
And I would like a tiny machine in my tv-bench that I could just hook on for a quick game or 5. Thinking it might attract the kids to some retro gaming as well.

1. Find an old laptop. Link to big TV if you wish.
2. Install KickOff2Online
3. Play

Re: The A500 mini
No you're not one of those people, I have given you my setup! I can send you the latest update if needed.
For a tiny machine that suits a media station, I have (and strongly recommend) a mini PC such as an Intel NUC. It's perfect for what you need, granted you'll pay a bit more than what the Amiga mini costs but you can do tons of other stuff with it, such as install more retro emulators or use it as a media player.

Re: The A500 mini
Thanks for your input guys.
But... Ffs. I just remembered I have a Raspberry Pi 3 B+ laying at home. I think it's a 3 B+ anyway...
Does any of you know how to set that up for playing Amiga-games? I tried once, but I couldn't make it work. I got to where the system loaded, but I just couldn't move around in it or nothing. So that where the project ended...

Re: The A500 mini
I have never worked with a Raspberry Pi, but if I understand it correctly it depends on the operating system you have installed on it. If it's Windows, then you can copy WinUAE same way you would with any PC. If it's a Linux distribution, I'm afraid it will be more complicated.

Re: The A500 mini
It looks like there are a few options for Amiga on Pi3
PiMiga looks promising.

Re: The A500 mini
I'm going to sound like a broken record but, I don't see the point in purchasing a non-Amiga machine to use exclusively for Amiga emulation. If you're not going to get the real thing, you might as well get one that has other uses too.

Re: The A500 mini
Your objections are noted and taken into consideration, Alkis. Thanks. And for what it's worth, I'm not gonna get the A500 mini.
However, I do own a Raspberry Pi, so why don't get some use out of it. Because as it is now, it's just lying in a drawer, not being used. But if I can use it to play games on my tv-set, then why not?
Thanks Steve. PiMiga might be worth a shot.

Re: The A500 mini
Totally agreed. See if it has (or can handle) Windows 10.

Re: The A500 mini
I play old games on my television, with a raspberry.
I have Amiga games too. It's not quite the same, but it's not bad for discovering
I find the A 500 mini expensive
