Returning from the Tournament one thing is very apparent to me.

I completely agree with Rob Swift in that 5-3-2 is a great defensinve tactic and if used well can be a real git to break, however the amount of people using 4-2-4 and still managing to defend well was amazing.

The best defender used 4-2-4, Rikki (second best defence) used 4-2-4 and even myself, being completely crap in 18th position I had a pretty good defense compared to the bottom half of the table (I just can't score).

You have to be really careful at the back, if you time your headers well and read the game you can make 4-2-4 as hard to beat as 5-3-2. the difference is that one mistake can be critical.

I changed to 5-3-2 in my friendlies and didn't like the fact I had no wingers, I wanted the ball out wide and no outlets were available, at the back I felt more comfortable but still conceded.

Long live 4-2-4 I will never leave you again

I agree with you Durbs. 4-2-4 is nice for defending too.

Anyway, I'm a bit like yourself: I consider myself a very decent player on the defense but I'm crap at scoring too. Have to check that tutorial Alkis made more carefully!

Or get a different joystick, heh.

4-2-4 forever unless i'm wining by a couple then it's 5-3-2 and hang on !!!! Hehe, i still love playing 4-2-4 but I ain't really got the defensive skills to use it to the full. But you're right it has been proved you can have a strong defense with it.

Strike was always my favourite. The number 5 was always in the right place and it had great wingers too.
