Floodlight Failure at the Kick Off 2 Stadium!!!! HELP!

Postby gdh82 » Fri Feb 20, 2009 11:56 am

...aka my monitor is on the blink. :(

I'd always liked the idea of a night-time pitch 8) but this is ridiculous! The green pitch has turned black, the yellow players are virtually invisible and the blue players are plain ghostly!!! :eeko:

Its a Commodore 1084ST Monitor and if you know anything about CRTmonitors, I'd be grateful of any advice. Is this fixable or is it fcuked ?

And is it right that CRT technology has three colour guns ? Before it got to this stage I'd lost the red colour but this wasn't a problem but now I'm guessing that another of the guns is a gonna.

Thanks in advance.

I really hope that the reason is the cable...

Thanks Gianni. I connected and disconnect and even gently shaken the cables but sadly they seem fine. I suspect its the monitor but wonder if it can be salvaged or whether its destined for the scrapheap ?

No worries, Garry. My monitor is also very sensitive and tend to look exactly like that now and then. The problem here is that the cable is not properly connected to the part closest to the monitor. Try to wick and turn it around in that area (cable backside of the monitor) and im sure you´ll have good picture again soon.

(It is the part 2-3 cm from the monitors backside that must be adjusted)

Thanks John. Yours and Gianni's post is giving me hope it might be the cables after all. I'll hopefully take the monitor around to Steve's tourney tomorrow so we can test it out on another set of cables etc

Gianni and John - you were spot on! I wired up my monitor using Steve's gear and to my utter surprise, it worked fine!!!! Really pleased about this. :)

I'll double-check my monitor cables but I'll probably need to pick up some new ones. Anyone know if you can buy these brand new or is it a matter a picking up an old one of ebay ? Any links etc would be appreciated.

Nice to hear that was the case with your monitor, Garry. I have a t-shirt below the cable connected to the monitor here, it seems like it needs to be oushed upwards.

I fear it is not the cable that is the issue here, rather the monitor-connection that would need to be sorted :(
