Whats the reason no selfmade tactics are allowed in tournaments?

Talk about EVERYTHING related to Kick Off 1 + 2.

Hy guyz,

first thing is I´m really really happy I´ve stumbled accros this forum. I couldn´t belive my eyes, it´s so amazing seeing so much "addicts" to the best game ever

As I´m new to this place I have to get familiar with your tournament rules.

As far as I get them right, selfmade tactics are not used (allowed?) in tournaments?
Whats the point with this?
To me it seems like cutting off half of the thrill and potential.

Probably this was already discussed in extense, but I ´didn´t find it

Not everyone has player manager and so i think it would be unfair if we allowed self made tactics. Basically the tornaments are trying to see whos best at Kick Off 2, and not who has spent their entire life doing nothing but design tactics. Its best if we just keep it simple and everybody just starts on a totally level playing field.

Right said Vin. I'd like to use a custom tactic in a tourney (I'm a great PM fan) but it wouldn't be fair. So we stick by the rules.

I think it'd be fair to at least allow Falcon/Blitz/etc

You cannot be serious about not allowing even falcon/blitz/etc?

Only the basic tactics 4-2-4, 4-3-3
4-4-2 and 5-3-2 are allowed.

It would take ages to load/reload the Amiga for just changing the tactics. The default tactics can't be a problem to anyone; most of us (if not all of us) use them.

I confess I usually used Falcon when I was younger. And I was not the only one around these parts...

It's not like the rules are carved on marble or something, if it turns out that the majority wants a rule to be changed then it will be.

Hey all,

first a big thx for the responses

IMHO it’s not that difficult to make a good tactic with "playermanager".
I guess I wrote some good ones, at least here in Berlin they’ve become standard.
It took me a few hours each and they lasted for decade
I confess there are only 3-4 active players left, from once around 20, but all of them have had much fun using various tactics.
There is especially one point I don’t get in the above posts:
What the hell takes so much time, loading some tactics from a floppy? Is it the emu?
When I do this on the real Amiga, it don’t even takes me a minute to replace 4x2=8 tactics. So what?

I have had some games with my mates, “tied down” to the standard tactics according to KOA.
Well it was a kind of timetravelling but it was real fun, especially for my mate "Uwe", who didn’t beat me more than twice in the last two years.
Playing 5-3-2 both, I couldn’t beat him for 3 or 4 matches and Uwe was happy
A lot of dribbling and short passes are needed to play a good 5-3-2 and the game becomes rather slow. I believe I’ll come back to this "when I’m 64"

If anybody can tell me how to make a “floppy Disk Image” on the real Amiga shell, I would be very glad to send you a selection of our favorite tactics by mail.
Also I would very much appreciate your tactics-disks (xgim@gmx.net).

In a way, to me KO2 is like Descent2, Go Bang, Lemmings, Boulder Dash, Surfing.
What do these have in common?
Reduced number of elements in endless combinations, increased degrees of freedom and fun.

If balanced this means:
Keep it simple, make it thrilling

If unbalanced(see Lemmings 3 for example) it means:
Make it silly, keep it boring

Windsurfing or Surfing? Tactics or not?
Well, both points for sure have there pro and contras and “decisions” may therefore be subjective and personal.
But as they are personal, shouldn’t they be a little bit more flexible?

Don’t get me wrong, I’ll stick to the KOA rules anywhere and anytime we met if you wish, but what are your main concerns with KO2, the game or the ladder?

best regards
xgim

I think it comes down to people want to know for certain who is the best kick off player not who can make the best tactics. If we could all use our own tactics then you'd always get the 'well i could have won it if i'd used those tacics' comments.

Tactics could be the difference between winning and losing, I think they should be allowed. Nothing like playing 3-5-2... Hoddle`s way.

The trouble is that because there is no offside rule you can bebefit from ridiculous tactics of putting a striker right up with the opposition keeper the entire game, one long punt out and they are history, to combat this the opponent would then put his defenders right back etc etc but to make this work you would have to see your opponents tactics during the game and be able to modify yours to handle his etc etc it just doesn't make good playing, better to grab a stick and use one of the defaults.
