We are forever upgrading forums

Postby manicx » Mon Feb 04, 2008 7:43 am

This Friday, at 7am CET, the forum will go down. The reason for this is the upgrade to the new version of phpBB (v3). The forum will be down for nearly 24 hours mainly because both me and Durban will also be working on that day. So, no need to discover some ancient forums and try to be there ;).

After the upgrade, you will be presented with a completely new forum. New layout, new theme, more features, enhanced security. Original posts will all be there. In case of any problems, we will revert to this forum until we have the problems sorted.

Looking forward to it! =)

I'm glad that you have made a sub-forum for WOF here, but technically it's not a 'new ko' game..

What do you (all) think about a sub-forum for 'other' football games, PES and FIFA for example - maybe even SWOS - and then WOF would fit in there also..

If it's too much hassle then just ignore me! ;)

Sure! We're running the same forum software at the WOF site.. =)

I want to make sure people don't think of WOF as a new KO game, but rather as a new game in it's own..

- perhaps I'm too pedantic?

hehe. Maybe.

I see where you're coming from Dennis, but I'm not sure wether or not the KOA-forums need to be divided up more than what they are.

Thanks to all involved (Durban and Nikos, right?)

I like the new look and browsing in the user control panel gave me a glimpse of the new functionality.

Some comments follow:
- Avatars. I see they are automatically resized on display so that big avatars don't mess the page layout. However, the actual image loaded is the original image the user submitted - therefore the data transferred are the same. This isn't that useful for pda/mobile surfers . I don't see a solution here since the images aren't hosted on the KOA - we just have to be sensible on the avatars we use.
- Scrap the old KOA home page - it isn't consistent with the look of the new forum and not useful anymore, since the required links are now displayed at the top of the KOA forum pages.
- It might be useful to add the KOA calendar (a section of the KOASI) to the links above the screen, since a link to the calendar was included in the old home page.
- Is it possible to redirect all links pointing to the old forum posts to the new forum? Right now all links to ko-gathering.com/phpbb2 display the "Sorry, but this board is currently unavailable. Please try again later" message.

I can probably globally change the Database for the forums, or we put automatic forwarders in from the phpbb version to the forums version, good point.

As for the avatars, yes I am trying to work something out for that but not sure what can realistically be done.

Old Home page, we were going to put the newer version live (the one I set up a while ago) but unfortunately priority was given to bring the KOA back online, I will look into updating the home page asap mate, give me a couple of weeks tho as I need to sleep after this weekend
