Someone who was not in Dartford, and tried to figure out what happened there just by reading some of the posts written in the beginning of the week, would draw the following conclusions:

1)Anyone could have won the tournament. Just anyone. All he had to do was choose a 5-3-2 formation, substitute player #9 in the beginning of the second half, and score the same goal over and over.
2)Nobody chose to do any of the above, because that would spoil the fun. That's understandable. We all know how terrible Kick Off 2 is when you play 5-3-2. Worse than the FIFA games. A substitution takes bloody ages, so why interrupt the fun to make one? And we all saw that every player who faced an empty goal simply refused to score. He just passed the ball back to a teamate, trying to find a more spectacular way of putting the ball in the net.
3)There was one man though who violated that secret oath everyone took before the tournament. Having no shame, he used all three of the cheat codes mentioned in (1). That man was Alkis.
4)While he was playing, his behaviour was particularly unsportsmanlike. He kicked his opponents under the table. He laughed at them and called them names each time he scored. At the end of each match, he'd get up and leave without looking back.
5)While he wasn't playing, he crept into a dark corner and spied on his opponents. He snobbed and avoided everyone who tried to talk to him. Had his own mother participated in the tournament, he wouldn't have supported her. He stole food from other people's bags. He went to bed at 8:00 pm every evening.
6)Obviously, the only reason he was there for was the trophy. Nobody else wanted it, so they stepped aside and watched him cheat his was to it.
7)After the final, instead of a speech he snatched the trophy away from Steve's hands and disappeared in the darkness. The other guys shrugged when they heard the bad man's evil laughter (BWAHAHAHAHAHAHA!) fade away, sighed with relief and went back to having fun.

Right?
Wrong.

It's time for me to put things straight, so please read carefully:

-I did not win the tournament because I was playing 5-3-2. Half the people were playing 5-3-2. I won because
a)I never sold my Amiga or stopped playing KO2. I kept it and played Kick Off 2 at least once weekly(ish) since 1990.
b)The timing for this tournament was perfect for me, since this year I had all the time in the world in my hands, hence plenty of time to practice. I probably practiced more than everyone else, because most of the other guys had jobs, families, studies etc.
c)I've been in tournaments with strangers before, so I knew whew what was coming.
d)I happened to be in a good KO2 shape these two particular days. A week earlier or a week later, I have no idea what could have happened.
-I do not think I'm the best KO2 player in the world, any more than I believe Miss Universe is the prettiest woman in the world. I do believe though that, if there is such a thing as a best player in the world, I'm in the same league with him.
-A long pass+a paralel walk+a shot is the *most frequent* goal I score, granted. But it's hardly the only way I use, and I'm pretty sure my 79 goals were scored in pretty much every way that exists. Gianluca, Nazim and Mark prefer carrying the ball a lot, with close dribbling and short passes. I prefer long, high balls. They can play the way I play if they want to, and I can play the way they play if I want to. It's a question of choice, not abilities.
-Perhaps the only mistake I made in Dartford was that I automatically assumed everyone was my friend, and I behaved too openly to some people who did not want or need my friendship. And to think I was accused of the opposite!
-I did want to win, and let's face it so did everyone else. But I also wanted to have fun, meet and talk to all the people that have kept me busy during my online time these past few months. I did talk to everyone as much as I could, and I did go out on both Friday and Saturday evenings. I did my best and trust me, keeping my head to my matches, making sure everything was organized perfectly, taking pictures AND socializing was not easy. However, I think I did a fairly good job.
-I showed disrespect to no man. I did not speak or behave in a bad way, I did not judge badly any personalities (I loved how interesting and polite everyone was) or Kick Off abilities (I think everyone who made it to the second round is a quality Kick Off player, and 3-4 from the first round as well).
-Three have been the the happiest days of my life so far. The first one was in 1979, in a Christmas event for the Air Force officers' children, when I saw Santa Claus descend from the sky in a helicopter. The second one was in 1989, when AEK won the first championship in Greece after 10 years by beating Olympiakos 1-0 away. The third one was last Sunday.
My first day was ruined when I learned Santa Claus did not exist. My second day is ruined each time I watch Olympiakos win thanks to false penalties.
I won't let anybody ruin the last one for me.
I'm back to the forum because I want to talk about Kick Off, which is not as fun as playing it but it's a damn close second. I'll settle things between Vasilis and I in private, because I do not want this forum to become a soap opera, and I certainly don't want you guys to pick sides.
Vasilis, this town is not big enough for the two of us. Meet me tomorrow in Constitution Square before dawn. This is my weapon of choice:

Have you seen my ALKISSFOOTBALL picture? it was on the mainsite couple a days ago. It was a tribute to the deserved winner of the tournament.

Welcome back Alkis! I'm glad you decided not to leave, we need people like you here, and i'm not refering to your kick off skills!

I've been in different forums in the past and i know how easy it is to cause misunderstandings by a post, cause after all it's not so easy to show how you feel in letters. I hope you and Vasilis sort out this misunderstanding.

Just on one thing you mentioned (not very relevant to the other guys here but any way). Olympiakos may ruin the championship for years, but they will never steal my memories, at least not for me. And they will never feel how we felt my friend, they wouldn't even begin to understand if you tried to explain it to them...

Alkis, points 1-7 created a few belly laughs at this end. You are getting the hang of the sarcasm thing, definitely.

Welcome Back alkis21

In the last days I have tried these 'simple' goals. They are really NOT SIMPLE to execute. Also the 'stop & go' technique is very skilled.

Thanks for your "welcome back", mates. I neglected to thank all of you for your e-mails and private messages these past few days. I did not respond because I needed some time to think alone. Enough with this, let's talk Kick Off!
