Maybe it's a good idea to organise qualifying rounds in Holland, UK, France, Germany etc. to make sure everyone gets his chance to play for a ticket for the 2002 tournament in Greece.

Isn't that a bit too ambitious? You're all assuming most of us will still be willing to travel to another country for a tournament next year, and that's probably a reasonable assumption.. but qualifying rounds?? We need dozens of more players for that, don't we?

Alkis, I guess it depends on how many players seriously want to attend the event.

We managed to get 32 for the UK event with only 1 person failing to turn up.

32 players worked out well over two days and this may be the restriction that the event is limited to.

If that is the case then if there are too many people from some countries then I guess there may have to be an elimination process.

mmm I thing there will be no problem if we'll have more than 4 amiga in the championship.
If we'll have 6 amiga we can arrange very easy a 48-players-championship!

Maybe qualifiers would be a good idea, but it would be very stupid if people who write in the forum a lot get knocled out, and someone who never bothers to do anything for the KOA will make it to the tournament. Imagine Steve Screech getting knocked out. We all know who are the active KOA members, and they diserve to get a ticket for Greece.

Yeah there has to be some fair way of selecting players for the next tourney, instead of the first come first served type situation.

I agree that Steve Screech and maybe some other important KOA people like for instance the moderators of this site don't need to qualify. But getting a ticket for next years tournament in Greece just because they have posted lots of messages doesn't sound fair to me.
If not too many people are willing to travel to Greece then there is no problem at all.
But for the UK tournament there were more than 32 people who wanted to take part in it...

There's no point in arguing about who has the right to go next year. It's a year away. It'll probably just come down to who's available and can stump up the 'plane fare to Athens. Think about your regional tournaments first.

I'm also going to be contentious again ("No, that's not like Swifty!" I hear you shout)....BUT

The main purpose of The Gathering was NOT to find a 'world champion', but (in my opinion) to introduce a whole load of people who'd previously been playing in small groups or on their own. In this objective it was very successful, and now I never need to have James Lockerbie in my house again, with Nazim up the road, Michael Qureshi across the river etc etc not to mention Camber and the Beards, the Anco boys (drop me a line!) etc etc.

Until 6 months ago, I imagined that I was the last relic of a dying religion, rather like Obi Wan Kenobi in Star Wars. But no, my eyes were opened, and I found the world was literally bursting with Jedi, including master Yoda himself (Alkis?!?)

So, don't worry about who's 'allowed' in the next tournament - just organise one yourself! This excellent forum is the ideal place to do it!

PS Tim's ranking idea is brilliant. I nominate him as 'Vice President of Ranking'. Is there a seconder?

Oh, and you're on the list for the Easter tourny anyway - I think you're representing Scotland.

If that's anything to go by, you'll qualify for every World Cup and never make past round one.

This sounds like a challenge Swifty .
Sadly the proud Scottish team wont make the world cup at this attempt but im sure i can do us proud at the easter tourney at least.
I predict England will reach the semis and fall by the wayside, but you never know you do have a decent chance.

Sorry I'd have to say the idea was to find the world champiom: that is now ALKIS. You can't have world tournament without Alkis in.
