General question about buying and paying: is the Euro accepted widely or at least credit cards?
Or do we need Swedish Kronors for the meals, supermarket barbeceue stuff etc?

Credit cards (at least supporting Visa and/or Master Card) should do the trick, I guess.
You could, of course, bring travellers cheques.

I won't attend the Friday dinner unfortunately, so if I can be cancelled for the dinner that would be great, thanks.
I will arrive Saturday morning to the venue instead.
