World Cup 2016 - The Vote for Location

Postby Steve Camber » Wed Dec 16, 2015 1:04 pm

The time has come to vote for the location of the 2016 World Cup.

Three bids have been put forward:

1. Birmingham. (link) Bid withdrawn
2. Copenhagen. (link)
3. Ibiza (link)

The usual date for the event is in November.

In order to reduce the chance of abuse, this vote is open only to members who have previously participated in a KOA world cup.

To cast your vote, send an email to vote@ko-gathering.com stating:
-Your KOA username
-Your chosen host city (choose only one)

Voting ends at midnight on 31st December 2015

If your chosen city is not successful you are encouraged to support and attend the winning location.

Can you please confirm that the WC Rules are part of the bids, as they are currently written, or if we are simply voting on the location like the title of the topic reads? I am not looking for further debate, I just would like to know before I vote.

I think we agreed that we're voting for location. The Copenhagen-bid will be edited accordingly.

Hang on, it seems that the Birmingham bid comes with rules attached, and they are not open for voting. Do we want to choose a location on this basis, and do either of the other bids include a decision on rules?

Would it maybe be a good idea to open a thread where each of the three hosting teams made their offers and terms? This ought to include some basic information about the venue, accommodation, travel info, so people can make the decision. I realise that both cities hosted World Cups in the last 5 years but not everyone was there and nothing can be assumed or taken for granted.

Rob, all those things you have suggested we've actually done (for Birmingham) and I did explain that the Birmingham bid was not open to vote.

If you're suggesting that the other guys should do it too...well if they want to host, should they need to be told?
Or do you want to push them over the finishing line? With no vote is it suddenly "anyone but Birmingham?" - We've already established that the Copenhagen bid was only posted to give us some competition. Really sad.

Anyways, if the ultimate intention is to lend some organising tips to make the others more attractive (AFTER the deadline date for submitting bids), to ensure we don't get it then I'll pull out now.

I think in reality we have started the process lets just get it finished and then next year we can sort out the formalities and rules around what and when.

I do agree that the bids should have at least skeleton detail around location and transport and all that but at the same time for some reason we had this really short deadline.

All bids were aware of it, no one seems to be hiding anything, and so its all fair.

I agree we should be voting for location primarily, but in Steve's defence they opened up with everything up front and the whole 'bid for location only' sentiment kinda cam after that so no real point them editing it all now.

I reckon we move on and discuss the 'dos and don't' for next years process.

Sorry if I am missing somethibg fundamental here, but it has all been a bit rushed!

Oh I see, I didn't really read about -

TOURNAMENT FORMAT AND SETTINGS
We intend to use the APT menu as normal, but with the new feature of Team A's A and T settings also applying to Team B.
So normal KOA rules, A=B, no wind and users able to use APT menu.

Yeah didn't realise this wasn't being voted on, no issue for me tho - can see how it would be for others I guess - maybe we could trial somewhere first and you may actually like it?

Si no mate will read now, but whilst I understand why we may not 'like' enforced rule changes - I don't have any fundamental issue with the proposal however it isn't really for discussing here I guess as this is just the 'vote away' thread :)
