Thank you for your replies, gentlemen. You make some good arguments and I accept them. :)

Just to be clear, I'm not against death groups by principle, as long as they happen by chance (overperformance, underperformance, new surprise players etc.) rather than by poor design - otherwise why not ditch the seedings altogether? I'm not saying that our current format is designed poorly, I just feel uncomfortable with the equation of positions 2/3 and 5/6. But I admit that my proposal was too radical.

As Mark, I'm playing for Team Rodolfo here. :)

BUT I also really like what Gianni is proposing; Let's play more cup-oriented on day 2, rather then the big leagues. :)

Torchiador wrote:Being honest, about the format, I would be also in favour to come back to the original knock out phase with 4 groups of 4 then quarter finals.

-------------------------
the day one group stage is the qualification stage, in fact you quality for the World - Silver or Bronze cup. then, on day two there is the proper tournament phase: the Cup itself.

In addition to that, I think that quarter- and semi-finals should be 1-legged, if the final is also 1-legged. Only if the final is 2-legged, I think it makes sense to have the q- and sf's 2-legged.

I thought you agreed with Rodolfo on abandoning the quarter finals stage in the Silver Cup.

Correct, I want them out. But IF they stay in, they should be 1-legged. At least if the final also is 1-legged.

 Your win was well deserved dude, you showed that in the final. :)

My point is just that the qf's and sf's should be of the same setting as the finals.

As a SILVER CUP WINNER in 2009, UKC's, and WC2011 in Rome, where I ENDED RODOLFO's dream in the Semi-Finals ... (I think it was that round?) I will go with whatever else people say...!! I am too far out the game to comment, as not have been involved.
However, not sure if it was mentioned in the last few pages (as not read them) I liked the Golden Goal Cup from the UKC... anyone can win! Perhaps have this an extra competition?

I think a Golden Goal would be a GREAT addition to the WC.

Whether we could find the time to incorporate I am not sure, but would definately be a great addition.

Maybe it could be a Friday night event or something?

It was Birmingham WC 2011, Rome WC was in 2007. And you got rid of me in qf. Just attend this WC and we will see what we can do 8)
