Postby JamesHBeard » Tue Aug 19, 2008 8:53 am

Chaps, I have posted this really early as I am going to be away on Microsoft training and then a holiday in Majorca and a week off in the UK.

I am hoping to secure the 15th September as the September event date, as we may very well have Jon H coming along to make our 2nd international KOAer to play at the Newent stadium.

Please post confirmations on this thread and can someone update the confirmed list while I am away from the UK (August 31 - Sep 8th)

Tnx for coming up with this early on, James.

Im in London weekend before this Monday and will go back to Sweden on Tuesday. Im very keen on partipicating in this tournament when I have left the Monday free for this event when booking my flight back. I have been in discussions with Robert and unfortunately it is clear that when he will be out of London from early Monday morning until Tuesday (likely) busy with work and meetings connected to that. It is not ideal for any of us that I go with him that Monday morning.

Therefore I have decided to come up with a humble request to you London players: If any of you have been thinking about going to a tournament in Newent before the Wcup this is a good opportunity. If anyone of you is ready to give me a lift from London to Newent and back, I pay for the gasoline (say 50£)+ dinner for the driver on restaurant on the way.

Im mainly thinking of players like, Simon and James Butt, Bounty Bob, Stainy or Sid. Im unsure about where Haydn lives, but if you live in London maybe it is time for a comeback now? Maybe I even dare to hope for a comeback for Waynie here (and possible lift)?

Tnx in advance

Hi Jon. Unfortunately I can't do this as it's the day after I get back from my holiday, so will be in no state for more travelling. I would have overlooked the playing without auto-slides for this special occasion too.

Although I obviously can't speak for Haydn, Sid Stainy and Waynie, I'll have a go. Haydn lives way past the wrong side of London and so would be very unlikely. I'd say Stainy would be a definite no, as I normally would drive us when travelling mid week. Sid has said that he won't play any more Newent's. But it's Sid, so you can't take any notice of that . I'll ask him for you as he's not on the forums much these days. Waynie is a possibility but I can't see him travelling that far for an evenings Kick Off. Also, last I knew, James B doesn't live in London.

Thanks for the update about your situation Mark. Another source also suggests my only chance (even if very slim) is Sid and Waynie. I would be grateful if you could ask them for me, in case they do not look at the forum these days.

I spoke to Sid but he was preparing for his holiday, so I didn't want to hassle him. He's now away for two weeks and so I won't speak to him again until I get back from my holiday. I would say that Waynie is extremely doubtful for this but I'll send him a message anyway.

Jon, we're 99% confirmed to be using a venue in Reading for this event. I'll send you a PM with the details of how this might work but, overall, I think you have a solution for getting back from Newent afterwards.

Mr Beard; overall we need to make this event worth the while of those who are travelling, but I cannot be getting home at 1.30am if I need to be up again at 6.30am to drive out to Reading. Therefore I wonder whether we can agree some ground rules around the timings; i.e. start 7pm promptly and finish/depart no later than 10.30pm. 3.5hrs is enough time for a human subject to complete up to 14 games of KO2 in laboratory conditions. Ideally we won't be playing quite that many (as mentioned before, 8-10 is the comfort zone) but if we are going for a x2 format then I'd like to avoid a reoccurence of this week's event where I left at 11.20, to commence my 2hr drive back. There are shit loads of roadworks in the way on both the A40 and A417 so even at my exceptional speeds the drive back is lengthy and tedious.

CAN WE AGREE ON A 7pm START, ie tournament games active?

This means not people going to the chippy at 7.30pm. :)

Count me in for this too ! 8) (Preparing extra LOCKOUT corner defences!)

The 7pm start should be okay - right Steve ? The Millenium Fiesta light speed through that 'Giveway' gateway will see to that!
