1st Greek Kick Off 2 Championships: December 8, 2007

Postby alkis21 » Mon Sep 10, 2007 12:07 pm

Dear all,

I believe we have enough active Greek players these days to hold a real Greek champs tournament for the first time.
I chose that particular date because Panayotis Pantazis will be in Greece then.
I am hoping for at least 12 players, otherwise it won't be worth the trouble. International guests are as welcome as always.
I suggest a mixed format, such as two groups + playoffs. A simple league would be silly as it wouldn't be different than any other Greek gathering.

The Greek Champs will be held in Compuwise, Artemonos 123, Dafni.

You must be at the tournament room at 10:00.

It's near the Dafni metro station, very close to Gymnastiki Akadimia.
Artemonos street is between Vouliagmenis avenue and Ilioupoleos avenue (parallel).

Confirmed attendance: 15 Players
Alkis P
Panayotis P
Spyros P
Nikos A
Kostas O
Vasilis K
Filippos M
Marios M
Nikos Al
Ektoras K
Vagelis D
George Ka
Kostas Ka
Stelios T
Yakos T

Exciting times for not only Athens but the Greek KO Scene. 8) May even entice a few newbies, you never know? (My first tourney was UKC 2006) Or at least this event may get KO2 some more attention ?

Good luck with organising this tournament, Alkis :)

Just so you know Spyros, my "when it matters, you will lose" axiom applies to national championships.

But this contradicts your Olympiakos analogy to me, dominating national tournaments.

BTW, haven't we had a previous "Greek Championships" in 2003? :)

No, we had an attempt to organize a Greek Champs, but as you remember only 6 people turned up and we decided (before the matches began) to hold a regular tournament instead.

Vagelis, any chance of us holding the event in the "ΙΕΚ Δάσκαλος" stadium?

I think Gianni should turn up and beat everyone, to add this to his UK and (maybe by then) German titles?

Actually guys if I don't go to Rome then I might be fishing for an invite to this. Looks like it could be good, if it was 12+ players and in a external venue.

By the way, if my memory serves, there WAS a Greek Championship before and Nikos won. I think this may be a case of selective memory on behalf of Alkis "I always beat the Greeks when it matters" Polyrakis.

By the way, two groups + playoffs is a 'North vs South' solution isn't it? This is officially amatorial so cannot be considered.
