Can you please sign me in for the tournament?
I would really like to join you guys...

The best rules in my opinion:
Computer: Amiga 500 with 2 Arcade joysticks
duration: 2 x 5 min. (or 2 x 3)
soggy field (for the best gameplay)
gamespeed 100% (on Amiga 500 of course)
no wind
skill: div.1 or div.3 (international plays like a pinballmachine)
referee: F.Willis

I suggest: A league-style playingscheme.
*Home and Away matches for the next games.
Home team: England (other suggetions?)
Away team: Italy (other suggestions?)
(So every player plays with England when he
plays a home-match, and with Italy when he has to play an away-match. I think this is fair because England is a bit better than Italy so there's a little bit home-advantage like in real matches)
Start with 4 groups of 8 players
(so everyone plays at least 14 games)
and let the first 4 players go through.
Continue with 4 groups of 4 players and
let the first 2 players go through.
Continue with 2 groups of 4 players and
let the first 2 players go through.
Final group with 4 players, the winner is
the champion.
Total number of matches is 308.
I hope there are enough computers to make it possible, but again, this is just a suggestion.;

Yeha i think the rules we have got already are going to have to stay, the 1st group stage alone will take 7 hours to complete but after that (day 2) things should speed up a lot.;

mmm sorry steve but I I don't understand why the tournament will take 7 hours.
The groups have 8 team with 1 amiga, then there are about 28 matches for the first leg and another 28 matches for the return leg.
There're 56 matches for each amiga, 2x5min then 560 min!!About 9 hours and 20 min plus enjury time and change of players about 3 min each game= 168 min. The total is about 728 min!!! 12 hours and 8 min! Gasp!

Start at 9 in the morning, get 12 hours in non stop (coz you won't be playing all the time)

finish at 21:30

Out the pub for 32 pints at 22:00

Pull 32 birds at 22:15

No worries.

sorry, I read another time your rules... there's only 1 leg in every groups?
no return match? it's a shame, mmmm with 2 legs the groups of 4 players take about 156 min, then the quarters, semifinal and final about 82 min. for a total of 728+156+82= 966 min, 16 hours and 6 min, more then 8 hours a day!!
really too much! Yeah It's hard to make a full home/away competition with only 4 amiga, it's all.;

Two questions:
-Will we have the right to substitute a player?
-Will we have the right to change tactics during play?

I think we should only be allowed to play in the 4-2-4 formation. Otherwise players will switch to the ugly 5-3-2. Don't forget about the audience, they want to see nice, attractive and attacking football.

Not sure about this. My skills (or rather lack of them) rely on me CounterAttacking by using the 5-3-2 formation. Not to worry about people watching tho., i'll be out pretty quickly anyway <IMG SRC="/koboard/images/smiles/icon_smile.gif">

I guess it's up to Steve. I don't think we should forbid many things though, we want to have fun.
