Retiring KOA Legends.

Postby durban » Mon Aug 19, 2013 11:45 am

Dear all,

Just an idea - don't mean to upset anyone.

In America they quite often retire shirt numbers for legends so that no one else gets to wear that number as an act of respect.

I was looking through the 'excellent' rankings today and was sad to see the numbers falling in terms of people who are no longer active.

I was wondering if we should, as a mark of respect and also for our own integrity, freeze certain players in the rankings regardless of their activity?

Sure it would be a pain to do but personally I think it would be nice to see certain players still listed (even if they eventually all go back to 1000 and mid table)

I was thinking of players such as -

Bill21
James / Martin Beard
Rikki F
Vasilis
Trevor

Lots of other such players, that I would love to see still in the rankings for old times sake.....

Who is with me ? :)

Vasilis is not inactive, he played a year ago.

We can "retire" their names. No one Will be allowed to enter a tourney, carrying on of The Names. ;-)

I guess that the purpose of the ranking is precisely to give an idea about the present players and their skills. Tributes should go somewhere else.

We can have a retired players hall of fame. Although to be honest, I do not see very clear why should we give some award to these quitters.

Furthermore, disappearance from the Rankings also works as an extra incentive for people to go to tournaments. It has happened before. Plus, I am reluctant to give tribute to people who stopped caring about Kick Off and the KOA a long time ago. You could build Bill V a golden statue and he'd never even know about it, so why bother?

I know what you're trying to say here Mark ... but here's the thing.

Not everyone one on that list deserves 'respect' (I think you know who I'm talking about)

Some decided not to bother with the community at the same time that they 'retired' from Kick Off - this didn't need to happen - we're all still friends right?

And as Alkis said - why build a shrine to people who'll never see it?

I think this sort of enthusiasm and energy would be better spent coming up with ideas to ensure that the KOA is here in another 5 years time :)

Nobody retires. We don't let them basically.

and what do you mean Bill21 hasn't seen my golden statue I made for him!?!?!?

He must have seen it surely, I sent him postcards and all sorts!!!

Maybe then we could have a list of players who have dropped off showing their highest rank, again I just wondered how high some people got to in terms of points, perhaps the KOASI has this anyway.

That can certainly be done, if you're up to the task. Just download the last Analyser version (it's a bit outdated, but that doesn't matter for this purpose), disable the 'Ranking table active player filter', select the player who want, double click on him and click on 'Progress'.
