If you can read this there is no censorship of my forum posts. Everything fine so far. Abu Dhabi is quite an impressive city; quite modern and rich with lots of skyscrapers, neat and clean with tidy pavements. Lots of shops and restaurants open very late. Quite a few people and cars but not hideously packed, not dead either. About right. And it's 20 degrees outside.

First day at work pretty good. Other people in my team are all very much like me, from Orange and Vodafone, knowing a lot about telecoms, similar age and background.

Key decision now is whether to live in Abu Dhabi at great expense or commute from Dubai at about half the price, which could net me a large, large saving.

Good call, but I don't think we have had confirmation from Robert that he has left the country yet mate hahaha :)

I'm sure we'd have heard something if he had been delayed and was still here.

Sorry, I would have posted something sooner but my hands were cut off.

Everything is going well here. Just that the job and the immigration bureaucracy are all-consuming. I am trying to reverse everything I did leaving the UK and get a phone, bank account, work PC, resident visa, driving licence, car. It's a lot. Am posting from the hotel now. Abu Dhabi is very nice, very modern, clean, stylish, impressive and also pleasant weather and safe at night. There are some massive projects here. This really is a rich country with some great ambitions. Main thing is to find somewhere to live soon. For the next year I think I will live in Dubai. There are several reasons for this. Property prices are about 50% of Abu Dhabi. There is a new road, making the commute much faster (1 hour). Dubai is also a more fun place for a single person. I noticed that everyone here in Abu Dhabi has a family with them. So it's nice and friendly, but a bit boring for me.

I will post a further update soon. The company is very good, the job is very good, so are my colleagues (mainly ex-Vodafone and Orange). I have some very interesting things to work on. They definitely hired the right person and I am definitely in the right place. Hopefully, about 3-4 years working out here and I will be able to come back to UK as a consultant, and only work when I feel like it, maybe 6 months a year.

Sounds great, it seems that things are looking good for you. Everything will be even better when you're all settled in your own place. Keep us informed!
