Today i tought to have permanent brain damages

Postby TheFoxSoft » Thu Sep 13, 2007 5:10 pm

This morning it happens a really strange situation.
After drinking a juice i was walking to my office desk. But in 1 or 2 seconds it happens the hell. Suddenly it was like as i was watching myself from an external camera, i thought to walk but the truth was another thing. I saw everything so bright, sounds were somehow filtered, and my right arm did not respond any more. While i realized to have some kind of paralysis i was about to be senseless.
Lucky i suddenly seat to a chair and in 5 minutes i recovered my arm motion. I was able to walk to the close medical point but pressure and heart rhythm was ok. So i decided to came back to work.
I opened a Word document and i start to write but  what the hell!!! I couldn't remember keyboard positions! Panic! To write something i decided to search each letter but at least i could continue my work. So i stared at the keyboard and I wrote for 1 minute. Then i checked the screen: WTF!!!!
Each word was messed up, i became....dislessic!
It was one of the worst scary moment in my life.
Then i couldn't see a big portion of field of view. It was a start of aura Migraine. I couldn't see anything the black hole it was bigger.
Check this picture simulation:

Then the headaches starts, it was a pain. Then the pain fades away but starts stomach ache.

In the afternoon everything was ok but it was really scared.
Now i must check what happen to my brain i just hope it is nothing serious!

What Robert said for crying out loud... Chances are, it's probably just a severe panic attack but you need to make sure.

Do see a doctor ASAP, Gianluca. That doesn't seem normal migraine behaviour

A bit extreme to start world cup excuses this early!

Seriously mate, hope you'r well...but you really need to get checked out by a Doctor. Just think of it as a MOT.

That sounds really bad Gianluca but it DOES sound like a migraine to me - I should know as I get them too. Still seek medical advice of course...

I've had them for twenty years off and on and presently I'm on preventative medication and touch wood its holding them at bay.

Essentially blood vessells in the brain become constricted and so lead to very strange effects. The visual disturbances you describe (aka zig zag lines) are called aura (some people get them and some people don't) and its because the vision processing part of the brain becomes impaired. I'm also had tingling sensations and numbness down my arms, in my face, my speech has become slurred, my coordination and thinking goes awol. These can be really scary just like your experience today.

Usually for me (but not for everyone) the body over-compensates for this by swelling up the blood vessells which leads to the over-whelming head pain which can last for days.

I certainly can sympathise with anyone that suffers with migraine.

Thats all the negative stuff out the way. There are various medication you can take. At the time of an attack, 'triptans' such as imigran are considered the gold standard for medication. Where attacks before frequent (I had six months of 1-3 attacks a week) there's various preventatives you can take that can bring relief.

Migraine is a very individual condition and solutions vary for each person.

It sounds like you may have had an aura-only migraine ? Are you under extra stress at present as this is a known trigger. Do others in your family suffer with migraine because it is heredity.

Hope things get better for you Gianluca very soon :) My best wishes...
