Even if Portugal doesn't qualify, there's always a team that comes up and forces England into penalty shootouts - and we all know what happens then! ;)

Russia-England tomorrow, I'm definitely watching this. It should be very interesting. What are your predictions?

Yep, its a tough one to call too. Playing on plastic will be interesting! I'll be happy with a draw at this stage of qualificaton :)

Some unexpected results today.
First of all, Greece became the second team (except Switzerland and Austria who are hosts), after Germany to qualify, with 2 matches to spare, by beating Turkey 0-1 in Istanbul. Excellent performance as well, we should score more ;) Turkey has to beat Norway in Oslo now for sure, or all is over for them.
England lost to Russia, and is now in trouble. I saw most of the match, and I believe that Russia played a good game, but was also pretty lucky, since the first goal was definitely not a penalty, and the second was scored during the aftershock of the first:) Now, England must beat Croatia.
Scotland shocked me by losing to Georgia, and of course, losing first place for now as well.

All results for today:
17/10/07 Grp B Ukraine 5 - 0 Faroe Islands
17/10/07 Grp E Russia 2 - 1 England
17/10/07 Grp C Malta 2 - 3 Moldova
17/10/07 Grp D Republic of Ireland 1 - 1 Cyprus
17/10/07 Grp A Kazakhstan 1 - 2 Portugal
17/10/07 Grp E F.Y.R. Macedonia 3 - 0 Andorra
17/10/07 Grp F Liechtenstein 3 - 0 Iceland
17/10/07 Grp F Denmark 3 - 1 Latvia
17/10/07 Grp D San Marino 1 - 2 Wales
17/10/07 Grp G Luxembourg 0 - 2 Romania
17/10/07 Grp C Turkey 0 - 1 Greece
17/10/07 Grp C Bosnia-Herzegovina 0 - 2 Norway
17/10/07 Grp F Sweden 1 - 1 Northern Ireland
17/10/07 Grp G Netherlands 2 - 0 Slovenia
17/10/07 Grp A Belgium 3 - 0 Armenia
17/10/07 Grp D Germany 0 - 3 Czech Republic
17/10/07 Grp G Albania 1 - 1 Bulgaria
17/10/07 Grp A Azerbaijan 1 - 6 Serbia
17/10/07 Grp B France 2 - 0 Lithuania
17/10/07 Grp B Georgia 2 - 0 Scotland

I am leaving for Switzerland on Friday, and will be there during the finals, but unfortunately I think it's going to be really tough for me to find tickets. I think everything is sold out months ago. Does anyone know any, ehm, other ways to get a couple of tickets?

So much for my hoping for a draw  :(

European Championship Qualifying : Group E Table
17 October 2007 19:22
P W D L F A GD PTS
1 Croatia 10 8 2 0 25 4 21 26
2 England 11 7 2 2 22 4 18 23
3 Russia 10 6 3 1 16 5 11 21
4 Israel 10 5 2 3 17 11 6 17
5 FYR Macedonia 9 2 2 5 7 11 -4 8
6 Estonia 11 1 1 9 3 21 -18 4
7 Andorra 9 0 0 9 2 36 -34 0

Croatia need just one point from their remaining two games to qualify. Russia will qualify if they win their remaining two games, while England, who play Croatia at Wembley in their last game, need Russia to slip up.

England's hope's of qualifying are now with Israel!!!!  :(

This is very true. The only way to get the result you want from such an important game is to back the other side financially.

I'll take a look at the odds but, with a game of this importance, I think placing £20-£30 on Russia to win would be wise. That way I either make fifty quid or England qualify. Either would be acceptable.

There's also an irony to this England situation. Guus Hiddink was one of the contenders for the job given to McClaren and he may well be the manager of the team that takes it away too!

Why did we defend so deep? Why did we capitulate so easily when we conceded the penalty? A draw would have been enough! We're screwed.
